MOHEGAN PARK IMPROVEMENT & DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE Thursday, March 8, 2018 – 6:30 P.M. Norwich Public Works Conference Room 50 Clinton Avenue, Norwich, CT Regular Meeting MINUTES 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Beryl Fishbone at 6:30 P.M. Committee members present: Beryl Fishbone, Bill Barbuto, Judy Magnano, Kyle Seitz, Samantha Venturo, Rebecca Melucci , Alderman Sam Browning, Angelo Yeitz filling in for Ryan Thompson. Absent: Ryan Thompson (Ex-Officio) 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Upon a motion by Bill Barbuto, seconded by Rebecca Melucci, the committee unanimously approved the minutes of the regular meeting held on January 11, 2018. 3. FINANCIAL REPORT 4. OLD BUSINESS a. Water tank update: There have been no new updates on the progress of the water tank. Angelo Yeitz stated that DPW has removed a fallen tree in the area between the Rose Garden and the water tank. b. Angelo Yeitz also said that the replacement of the roof panels in the concession pavilion and power washing will possibly be completed in a few weeks. c. Chelsea Gardens: Judy Magnano heard Mayor Nystrom state on WICH, that Chelsea Botanical Gardens will update the City Council at the second council meeting in April. d. Gate opening between park center and animal shelter and handicap parking spaces closer to park center: Angelo Yeitz said there will be one handicapped parking space near the dumpster by the dog pound. An opening in the fence should be completed by June 1st. e. Brochure containers on kiosks: Judy Magnano donated 3 literature holders and Samantha Venturo offered to provide copies of black and white trail maps. f. Promotion of the park: i. Earth Day (22 April 2018) ii. Arbor Day (27 April 2018): Beryl Fishbone and Ryan Thompson have enlisted the assistance of Tree Wardens Teresa Hanlon and Franz Redanz to give a presentation at Moriarty School.  iii. CT Public Gardens Day (11 May 2018): Angelo Yeitz suggested using students to help in the Rose Garden. iv. National Trails Week (2-10 June 2018): v. National Gardening Exercise Day (6 June 2018): vi. CT Historic Gardens Day (24 Jun 2018): Beryl Fishbone is looking to bring attention to the Rose Garden. g. Rebecca Melucci will create a Mohegan Park square for the Ellis Ruley quilt project. h. Beryl Fishbone noted that all Mohegan Park promotional efforts will be on the official City of Norwich Calendar, the WICH/WCTY, Norwich Bulletin, New London Day, WFSB, Hartford Courant, WTNH, and the applicable national calendars. 5. CITIZEN COMMENT 6. OTHER BUSINESS Regarding a suggestion by Kyle Sietz for a food truck event in the park: Sam Browning has looked into city ordinances with respect to the selling of food and drink in Mohegan Park. He has also spoken with Michael Driscoll and Ryan Thompson. It was suggested that since the concession building no longer exists (the selling of food or drink was limited to the concession stand) a food truck event could be feasible. A motion was made by Bill Barbuto for Sam Browning and Kyle Seitz to draft language for future food truck events along with Ryan Thompson. Rebecca Melucci voted in favor of the motion seconded by Samantha Venturo and it was unanimously approved by the committee. 7. ADJOURNMENT Motion was made to adjourn by Kyle Seitz, seconded by Rebecca Melucci and voted unanimously by the committee. The meeting adjourned at 7:17 P.M.
