MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Beryl Fishbone at 6:34 P.M.
Committee members present: Beryl Fishbone, Judy Magnano, Rebecca Melucci,
Samantha Venturo, Kyle Seitz, Alderwoman Stacy Gould, Patrick McLaughlin
(Ex-Officio).
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Upon a motion by Stacy Gould, seconded by Rebecca Melucci, the committee
unanimously approved the minutes of the regular meeting held on January 9,
2020.
3. FINANCIAL REPORT
The financial report was provided by Patrick McLaughlin. A motion to accept was
made by Samantha Venturo and seconded by Rebecca Melucci and voted
unanimously by the committee.
4. OFFICIAL CORRESPONDENCE
Public Utilities Department has contacted Public Works Department for advice
and assistance with a “Bring your child to work” project on April 23rd. The intent
is to plant trees in 3 places in the park. Patrick McLaughlin will suggest planting
locations and DPW will assist as needed.
5. CITIZEN COMMENT
Charles Boughton of 11 Beechwood Blvd., Norwich, CT asked for policy
information regarding dogs and dirt bikes.
6. OLD BUSINESS
a. DPW Report: Patrick McLaughlin reported that the park bathroom
project is underway. New straight pipes have replaced old pipe
configurations to prevent backups. The fountain will also be repainted.
The Spaulding Pond water level is almost back to normal. Park signs have
been fabricated but not up yet.
b. Disc Golf Update: Kyle Seitz and his sub-committee have secured enough
funds (through aggressive fundraising) to begin the disc golf project. Kyle
Seitz is getting necessary permits while working on map coordinates and
other preliminary tasks. A pancake breakfast fundraiser will be held at
Billy Wilson’s in June. Kyle Seitz suggested a singular disc golf basket be
placed in the park center for handicapped access. A motion to approve
was made by Stacy Gould and seconded by Rebecca Melucci and voted
unanimously by the committee.
c. Food Trucks in the Park: Alderwoman Stacy Gould reported that as of
March 9, 2020, any person requesting a food vendor permit shall adhere
to following minimum insurance requirements.
7. NEW BUSINESS
a. Park Activities for 2020:
i. National Trails Day: June 6th. Samantha Venturo has volunteered
to freshen trail markers.
ii. National Garden Exercise Day: June 6th. Samantha Venturo has
found someone to lead an hour long exercise group beginning at
9:00 a.m., in the Rose Garden.
iii. National Public Lands Day: September 26th
iv. CT Historic Gardens Day: June 28th
b. Back to School Movie Night: Samantha Venturo has contacted a person
willing to let us use a movie screen. They will collaborate on a date. Bully
Busters will lend their popcorn machine.
c. Patrick McLaughlin displayed a sample image of a 4”x 6”sign that would
be used to identify various species of trees in the park.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Motion was made to adjourn by Rebecca Melucci, seconded by Samantha
Venturo and voted unanimously by the committee. The meeting adjourned at
7:36 P.M.
