MOHEGAN PARK IMPROVEMENT & DEVELOPMENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE Thursday, July 14, 2022 – 6:30 P.M. Norwich Public Works Conference Room 50 Clinton Avenue, Norwich, CT Regular Meeting MINUTES 1. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Beryl Fishbone at 6:30 P.M. Committee members present: Beryl Fishbone, Rebecca Melucci, Robert Harris, Marianne Nicholas, Judy Magnano, Councilman Grant Neuendorf, and Patrick McLaughlin (Ex-Officio). Absent: Samantha Venturo. 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Grant Neuendorf to accept the minutes of the May 12, 2022 meeting, seconded by Rebecca Melucci and voted unanimously by the committee. 3. OLD BUSINESS a. Trail Blaze: Chairperson Beryl Fishbone and the committee thanked Marianne Nicholas and her family for marking the trails. b. DPW Report: i. Patrick McLaughlin suggested embellishing the park center since some of the old flower beds and plantings need to be refreshed and replaced. He suggested the use of a landscape architect and/or revisiting the original plans. ii. Patrick McLaughlin also said the new fitness equipment is being well used and is 80% to 90% complete. A paved connection to ADA equipment should be completed in a few weeks. iii. The new toddler playground equipment was ordered in March and is not expected to arrive until October. It was suggested the big worm be rehabilitated and remain somewhere in the park. iv. Despite the fee increase, the pavilion rentals have been better than previous years. v. Otis Library will move forward with the storyboard project and storyboards should be placed along the paved path in August. 4. FINANCIAL REPORT A financial report was provided by the city Finance Dept. 5. NEW BUSINESS a. Rebecca Melucci expressed concern about cars that are parking along the park roads and speeding throughout the park. Beryl Fishbone suggested rumble strips at the 3 corners near the beach. Grant Neuendorf suggested placing them on the road leading into the rotary b. Robert Harris updated the committee on the disc golf expansion. Clearing for new holes has begun. Holes 5 through 10 have been cleared. Hole 11 needs substantial maintenance or basket relocation. Baskets have been ordered and tee pad materials will be ordered soon. The area should be ready for early fall installation. c. Robert Harris updated the committee on the proposed mountain bike trails. New England Mountain Bike Association (NEMBA) is interested in helping design and build trails in the park. They have been provided a map and will submit a proposal. 6. CITIZEN COMMENT 7.
