PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MINUTES Wednesday September 11, 2013 Taftville Volunteer Fire Department 7:00 P.M. Committee Members Present Alderman Mark Bettencourt Alderwoman Sofee Noblick Alderman H. Call to Order – Quorum Alderman Mark Bettencourt called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. It was determined a quorum is present. II. Approval of Minutes - Minutes of August 14, 2013. Alderwoman Sofee Noblick motioned to approve the August 14, 2013 minutes, seconded by Alderman H. Tucker Braddock Jr. The motion passed unanimously. III. Correspondence – None IV. Citizen Comment – None. Public Safety Meeting Minutes September 11, 2013 Page 2 V. Old Business a) Radio on Fiber Jeremiah Kvasnik states the project is moving forward well. East Great Plain, Taftville, and Greeneville are done. Occum and Backus are still to be done. Occum should be done by the end of next week. At Backus there is a network connectivity problem that could take about a month to complete. Alderman Mark Bettencourt asks what the problem is at Backus. Jeremiah Kvasnik replies that the fiber was run to the wrong room in the Hospital. They have to re-run the fiber. He figures the completion should be around late October. Alderman Mark Bettencourt asks how the system is working so far. Chief Scandariato states there have been some hardware bugs but they have contacted the company and they are working on it. b) Plain Hill access and camera update Jeremiah Kvasnik states they replaced the door and it now has an electric strike. When someone needs to gain entry they hit a button on the door which links them to PD dispatch. PD can then grant access and monitor who is there. The project is complete. All that is left is some paperwork. c) Downtown camera update Jeremiah Kvasnik states they are on schedule. There was a big closing on the camera’s yesterday. There was a public opening and bidders from all over were there. There were bids from Norwich all the way to California. Alderwoman Sofee Noblick asks if we got a better price. Jeremiah Kvasnik replies that the project is still on track. Alderman H. Tucker Braddock Jr. asks if there were any local bids. Jeremiah Kvasnik replies that there was a company from Norwich, CT. VI. New Business a) Fall Hydrant Flush Jeremiah Kvasnik wanted to give the committee and those present a heads up that the fall hydrant flush will be held late October in Yantic and Taftville. VII. Other – Alderman Mark Bettencourt informed those present that Jerry Roberts posted on Facebook about the proper use of 911. Chief Scandariato wanted to let the committee know that they have accepted bids on the Greeneville project. They hope to be done by the end of November. They also plan to make an event out of it. VIII. Adjournment Upon a motion by Alderwoman Sofee Noblick, seconded by Alderman H. Tucker Braddock Jr., the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 7:09 pm Respectfully submitted by Christine Averna
