The regular meeting of the Public Works and Capital Improvements Committee was held on
Monday, August 17, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. via Zoom virtual meeting. Attendance was as follows:

1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes of the March 16, 2020 meeting were unanimously approved. (Motion:
Wilson, Second: DeLucia)
3. CITIZEN COMMENT - None
4. OLD BUSINESS
A. Public Works Projects Updates
Sherman Street Bridge – design process and permit stage. Keeping on track with virtual
meetings. DEEP and DOT are fine tuning the water handling. Semi-final design due in late
September and on target to start construction 2022/2023.
Sunnyside Bridge – work is going smoothly and slightly ahead of schedule; with the
next 3-4 weeks the bridge will be closed almost daily. DeLucia asked about the
communication to fire services of the Bridge closure especially for any emergencies.
McLaughlin said notifications go out daily, and in case of emergency, the bridge can be
re-opened in a timely fashion.
Annual Paving – finished in the Greeneville area. Next week due to start paving
Chestnuts St and Willow St. Need to wait for NPU to finish work over on Teddy Lane.
Wilson asked about finishing curbing work in Greeneville and McLaughlin said yes the
crew will be back to finish curb work.
Dunham Street –delayed due to DOT review.
Franklin Square Roundabout – working on Flood Management Certification.
New London Tpke - LOTCIP project with Montville, looked upon favorably by Town
Council of Governments and funding is approved. Next step – submit preliminary
design.
Chip Seal - completed chip seal on various roads on July 15th.
Boswell Ave CDBG – awarded sidewalk project, funding due in Oct & design work to
begin.
City Hall Slate Roof project – bid awarded and starting design phase.
Lakeside Pavilion – large tree fell on the pavilion back in July. Repairs are being done
and Insurance is covering most of the cost.
