Recreation Advisory Board Minutes – March 27, 2013

1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:29p.m.
2. Approval of Minutes Motion: J. Iovino, 2nd: R. Stewart. Approved Unanimously
3. Old Business
a. Recreation Programs Update
i.) Director Moss updated the Board on the Spring/Summer Program Book. Over
17,000 copies were direct mailed to Norwich Residents. The office has seen an
increase in inquiries on programs. The City is planning on sending out a Quarterly
Journal which the department would have the center two pages for program
information.
ii.) Spaulding Pond. Director Moss informed the Board that there will be money left
from the capital project on the building. The last purchase will be sand to replace that
lost due during construction
b. Budget 2012-13
i.) Capital Projects
1.) Renovations to Recreation Building. Director Moss updated the Board on local
architect is drawing up plans to be used in bidding out the replacement windows.
Director Moss is working on securing quotes to design the replacement heating
and cooling system conversion to natural gas.
c. Seasonal Employee Hiring Process – R. Moss reported that we are accepting
applications and will start interviews in May. All seasonal maintenance staff have
asked to return.
d. “Take Me Fishing Grant” – R. Moss informed the Board that training will take place
next week at Bishop School.
4. New Business
a. Director’s Report – M. Bettencourt mentioned the ice rink changes and special
meeting of the Mohegan Park Advisory Board to make sure the director was up to
date on current situations. R. Moss was aware of the changes at rink and special
meeting on April 4th regarding the Podunk Bluegrass Festival.
b. Budget – 2013-14 – Department presentation will be at 8 pm on April 4, 2013.
c. Varsity Softball Field Renovations. R. Moss updated the board that the field is being
renovated by the maintenance staff. We hope to have the work completed by April 8,
2013 weather permitting.
5. Concerns of the Board - None
6. Adjournment – Ray Stewart made a motion, John Iovino 2nd for adjournment at 6:48
pm. Passed Unanimously
