Recreation Advisory Board

Recreation Advisory Board Meeting April 3, 2019 Present: Jeff Blinderman, Ray Stewart, Cheryl Hancin, Lee-Ann Gomes, Julie Cagle, Stephanie Burnham Call to Order Minutes from the last meeting will be sent to members. They were not approved at this meeting Programs….There were 2 sessions. Youth programming is doing well (only 1:16 programs did not run). Some programs are seeing a doubling or tripling in attendance, for example, fencing increased from 5 to 13, yoga from 7 to 15, there was a wait list to attend the Safe Sitter class, magic lessons increased from 6 to 9. We ran a special needs program that had between 8-10 kids. The Rec will offer gymnastics after work hours to attract more participants. Adult participation is growing but a little more slowly. We are running yoga and tai chi. The spring book is out, but we will also do a summer book with the day camp and kinder camp featured. We are posting all our seasonal jobs. There will be an Easter egg hunt this Sunday, 4-7-19 from 10 to 12:00pm. It will also be the grand opening the new playground on Mohegan Road. A DJ will play music and NCDC will offer face painting. Facilities…..Fields are being prepped for spring sports. We are checking into using the full size soccer field at Ouellette to be use when softball is playing. We are looking at adding to the fence to increase safety. Other fields that have not been used recently are opening up, like Jenkins, which will be used for Little League practices. Building use issue….This issue tabled until the next Board meeting Budget…Lee and Cheryl reviewed the proposed budget. See PowerPoint handout. The Rec’s budget presentation will be on 4-4-19 at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers. The first Public Hearing is on 4-11-19 at 7:30 in Council Chambers and the second hearing will be on 5-13-19 at 7:30pm in Council Chambers. New Business…None Old Business…. None
