Norwich Recreation Advisory Board Meeting September 20, 2023, 6pm Rose City Senior Center 8 Mahan Drive Minutes Attendance in person-Jeff Brown, Erin Haggan, Pete Camp, Kara Kochanski Virtual-Patrick McLaughlin, Kate Milde 1. Call to Order-Jeff Brown 6:00pm Second Pete Camp 2. Approval of June 2023 Minutes-Jeff Brown Second-Pete Camp 3. Program/Facilities Update Fall catalog distributed Fall activities in session PickleBall Courts/Lights in use. 4. Master Park Plan Update Will meet again in Oct./Nov. to see rough draft and make suggestions 5. Guest Speaker Series We will start with NFA Teacher of the Year-Jason Bakoulis and NFA athletic Director-Roy Wentworth After school time of 2pm was discussed for higher attendance. 6. Public works maintaining city/school fields The Advisory Board presented the idea of public works maintaining school grounds, fields, and playscape, and a discussion regarding the benefits and challenges of this was had. Although it is not feasible at this time, further discussions can be had in the future to revisit. Public works has the professional equipment to take this on (one benefit) Lack of manpower to perform these duties was listed as a challenge. Scheduling needs to be addressed for Mohegan Park. The Advisory Board brought up the possibility of public works assisting in maintaining safe trails in the parks for the public and cross country teams that use the park. PW Dept Head indicated this was not feasible at this time, and the Adv. Board requested that further discussions could be had in the future. 7. Public Comment None 8.
