ROSE CITY SENIOR CENTER 8 Mahan Drive, Norwich, Connecticut 06360 (860) 889-5960  fax: (860) 885-1160 SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION Meeting of March 15, 2010 Members in Attendance: Chairperson Gen Bergendahl, Vice Chairperson Olive Buddington, Secretary Margaret Aldrich, Regular Members Michael Lahan and Jacquelyn Randall, and Alternate Members Antoinette Gwiazdowski, Frank Jacaruso, and Jan Stewart. Attending staff members were Beverly Goulet, Mike Wolak and Anne Barriere. Absent was Regular Member Michael Lahan Chairperson Gen Bergendahl determined that a quorum was present and called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m. Minutes: Accepted as submitted. Communications: We received several Thank You cards from grateful seniors who used the Med Ride II program (out-of-town medical-transportation) and from seniors who came to the Valentine’s Day Cabaret. Human Services Report: This year’s budget is a serious business. The City Manager will release his proposed version at the Council Meeting on Monday, April 5th. The hearing for Human Services will be on Thursday, April 8th at 8:30 p.m. at City Hall. Each department was asked to submit a reduced budget of 5, 10, and 15% but our department will be higher. We are planning a power-point presentation that will show the Council what the cuts mean in specific services to the seniors and how vital these services are to this population. Please make every attempt to attend this hearing. Senior Center Report: We sold 220 tickets for the upcoming Corned Beef and Cabbage Fundraiser which should show a profit of around $1,500 for the Senior Center. Dana’s “Murder Mystery” trip at Ocean Beach in April, which should show a profit of $3,000. (150 tickets were sold to February’s Valentine’s Day Cabaret.) We’ve reapplied for three grants; one for the extra day per week for Natalie, the Outreach Worker, the Podiatry Clinic and the Med Ride II (out-of-town medical transportation) program with Montville. Chairperson’s Report/Legislative Report: TVCCA meals are going very well, averaging 25-27, on Tuesdays anyway. Other Business: None. Old Business: None. New Business: Jan commended Mike for his collaboration with Lu DePina on the brochure. May 6th will be our Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. 2 Next Meeting: Monday, April 19, 2010, at 9:00 a.m., at the Rose City Senior Center.
