ROSE CITY SENIOR CENTER 8 Mahan Drive, Norwich, Connecticut 06360 (860) 889-5960  fax: (860) 885-1160 SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION Meeting of April 23, 2018 Members in Attendance: Regular members: Frank Jacaruso, Jr., Jacquelyn Randall, Laurieann Messore and Alternate member Janice Stewart were in attendance Attending staff members were Mike Wolak and Leeann Gomes Chairperson Randall determined there was a quorum and called the meeting to order. Minutes: The minutes from 11-20-2017 were approved. Communications: Mike shared a thank you note from a member who borrowed medical equipment after a recent surgery. Mike also shared that the Sr. Center received a $400 donation from CSEA for the use of the dining room for their monthly meetings. AARP also contributed $300 for the same. Norwich Bulletin has been restored at the Senior Center after a discussion with Jim Konrad. Human Services Report: LeeAnn stated is working on budget material at this time otherwise things are going smoothly Senior Center Report: Mike talked about the new cash policy that the treasury office has initiated. Mike stated the policy is a good one and tightens up securities. Volunteer appreciation breakfast is scheduled for tomorrow and 120 are expected to attend. Programs and services running smoothly. Trips are filling and Hilary continues to do a great job with that. Chairperson’s Report/Legislative Report: None but did send Gen Bergendahl a card. Mike stated he talked with Gen and she fully intends to continue with the commission. Old Business: There was a short discussion about goals and objectives. Laurie Ann shared ideas about promotion of the center. Discussion ensued regarding different way we currently promote the center and other new ways to promote us. Assistance will be needed with covering different fairs that we as a department take part in. Maybe the commission can assist in covering these type of programs. Commission members Messore and Stewart volunteered to have a table at the Yard Sale on May 12th at the Sr. Center. (Attachment included from Laurieann) New Business: Frank brought up the liability of lending out medical equipment and a discussion ensued. LeeAnn will be checking with Atty. Mike Driscoll Next Meeting: Monday, May 21, 2018 at 9:00 a.m., at the Rose City Senior Center.
