fax: (860) 885-1160 SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION Meeting of May 21, 2018 Members in Attendance: Regular members: Frank Jacaruso, Jr., P. Michael Lahan, Laurieann Messore and Alternate member Janice Stewart. Attending staff members were Mike Wolak and Leeann Gomes Member P. Michael Lahan determined there was a quorum and called the meeting to order. Minutes: The minutes from 04/23/18 were approved. Communications: Mike shared a thank you note from Matt Johnson of Matthew’s Catering and also a letter of appreciation that was sent mostly to thank Carolyn McAuliffe (Outreach Administrator) for her fine assistance. Human Services Report: Leeann stated that we are still awaiting the budget to be passed and do not expect major changes to the Sr. Center budget. One proposal had the reduction of all 3 drivers from 5 days a week down to 4. This proposal is not expected to be implemented. All City staff are currently getting training on sexual harassment. Senior Center Report: Mike talked about yard sale now being held on Saturday, May 26th from 9am-1pm. Looking for assistance on the last week of June, 1st week in July with collecting membership dues. Trips are doing tremendous. Hilary doing a great job organizing and running these trips. Chairperson’s Report/Legislative Report: None Old Business: There was a short discussion regarding the use of medical equipment. LeeAnn shared the 2 versions of waivers that Atty. Driscoll drew up for us. Atty. Driscoll stated that the waiver will not hold up in the court. After a short discussion the group decided it was not necessary at this time to do the waivers as it was just cause more work. We did decide to put a disclaimer up both in the building and in our newsletter. New Business: Jan requested to have Michael Lahan give an informational on such things as wills, transfer of assets, etc. Breakfast was wonderful, but it was requested that we go back to a luncheon. MSP program was fully restored by the State of CT. Next Meeting: Monday, September 17, 2018 at 9:00 a.m., at the Rose City Senior Center.
