fax: (860) 885-1160 SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION Meeting of November 19, 2018 Members in Attendance: Regular members: Chairperson Jacquelyn Randall, Frank Jacaruso, Jr., Jan Stewart, Laurieann Messore. Attending staff members was Mike Wolak. Guests were Ray Stewart and Bonnie (Fox Rehab Rep.) Chairperson Randall determined there was a quorum and called the meeting to order. Minutes: The minutes from 10/15/18 were read to the group and approved. Communications: Mike shared a thank you note from a senior for the use of medical equipment. Mike also received a beautiful card from a senior thanking us for our services and help is assisting her remain in her own apartment for the last 4-5 years. She will be moving to an assisted living facility. The Senior Center received a donation from the daughter of one of our former members who has since passed away. The $500 donation is to be used to help pay for memberships of individuals that cannot afford it and also for hairdressing services for those in need. Human Services Report: NONE Senior Center Report: Mike talked about Michael Lahan speaking tomorrow at 10am about transfer of assets. The Senior Center is having a small Craft Fair on December 5th from 9am-2pm. December 6th at 1:30pm our Combo Group, Roseland Combo, will be playing holiday tunes for our seniors. December 18th is our Annual Holiday Luncheon for the seniors. Tickets can be purchased for $12.00 up until Noon on November 30th. Chairperson’s Report/Legislative Report: None but stated she will assist as much as possible with things for the Sr. Center. We also had a nice moment of silence for longtime Commission Member, Gen Bergendahl, as she passed on November 3, 2018. We welcomed our guest, Bonnie to the Senior Center and gave her an opportunity to talk about her company, Fox Rehab,. She talked about the services her company provides to seniors and Mike told her he would connect her with Carolyn McAuliffe, Outreach Admin for the senior center. Old Business: There was a discussion regarding a “carport” for the senior center vehicles. Mike cleared it up and stated it would be more of a closed structure like a garage. Jan asked about storing the vehicles at PW Fleet maintenance garage (Mike has since talked to the Fleet Main. Director and he stated that this is absolutely no an option as well as at the PW garage on Clinton ave. There was a discussion about intergenerational programs and Mike talked about the programs they do, will be doing and have done in the past. New Business: Laurieann brought up the program that EX-Pawn will be doing soon where they give out motorized wheelchairs. Adopt a Family was brought up by Jackie and Mike said there was info in our current newsletter regarding that particular program. Jackie stated that on Thanksgiving morning, Central Baptist church is hosting a breakfast. Also, St. Vincent De Paul is having one sitting at Noon on Thanksgiving Day. Mike stated that our seniors were invited to Norwich Tech on Monday, November 19th at 5pm. Lions’ Club is not doing Thanksgiving baskets this year and will be concentrating on Holiday baskets for the Christmas season. There will be a Christmas Day dinner put on by Celia Seifert and the Bordeau family on December 25tha t 11am. Sign up begins on December 3rd Next Meeting: Monday, March 18, 2019 at 9:00 a.m., at the Rose City Senior Center.
