fax: (860) 885-1160 SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION Meeting of May 20, 2019 Members in Attendance: Regular members: Frank Jacaruso, Jr., Jan Stewart, Laurieann Messore, P. Michael Lahan and Rebecca Melucci Attending staff members was Mike Wolak. Member Jacaruso determined there was a quorum and called the meeting to order. Absent: Chairperson Jacquelyn Randall and Human Service Director, LeeAnn Gomes Minutes: The minutes from 04/15/19 were approved. Communications: Mike shared a thank you note from a senior for the assistance they received from Outreach Administrator Carolyn McAuliffe. Mike shared that one of our senior members gave a $1,000 donation to be used for senior center needs and that the Women’s City Club gave a $200 donation for the use of our space for some meetings throughout the year. Human Services Report: NONE Senior Center Report: Mike talked about the budget being ok so far. Mike also brought up the fact that the Volunteer Recognition Breakfast was a success. Mike stated the Clinic was in a transition period due to our RN receiving her APRN and is working full-time for a Doctor in town and can no longer do Wednesdays. Leonna, our RN will continue to do some Saturdays for the time being. Chairperson’s Report/Legislative Report: NONE Old Business: There was a discussion regarding the vehicle storage getting pulled from the budget and some other possible options including contacting Norwich Tech carpentry to see if they could build a structure similar to what Backus has for their “clearing off” of vehicles. Mike will also contact Patrick at PW to see if he might have some ideas/options. A motion was made by Jan Stewart to have Mike contact Norwich Tech and Public Works to see if they can assist with resolving this issue. Motion passed New Business: A suggestion was made by Jan to invite staff members periodically to our SAC meetings so we can hear what they do and put a face with a name. Senior Expo is being held at Norwich Tech on August 9th from 9:30am-12:30pm. SAC members were invited to be at the table with Carolyn McAuliffe to talk about the senior center and hand out information. An email will be sent at the end of July to re-invite and SAC member that may want to assist. SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS: September 16, 2019 October 21, 2019 November 18, 2019 March 16, 2020 April 20, 2020 May 18, 2020 Next Meeting: Monday, September 16, 2019 at 9:00 a.m., at the Rose City Senior Center.
