Senior Affairs Commission

Rose City Senior Center Senior Affairs Commission Meeting of September 19, 2022 Present Members: Frank Jacaruso, Rebecca Melucci, Lauriann Messore Present staff: Mike Wolak Absent Michael Lahan. Joanne Philbrick and Tara Booker Frank Jacaruso called meeting to order, as there was a quorum. Approval of the minutes –Minutes from May 16, 2022 meeting were approved Communications…Mike shared that the communications systems are down at the Senior Center. No phone or internet-NPU is working to resolve the issues. Human Services Director report….NONE Director of the Senior Center report: 1. We’ve been debating hosting our Holiday Luncheon but at this point are leaning towards doing it with somewhat limited seating available 2. Tara is leaving us. Put in her resignation a few months ago and the City is in process of hiring a new Director. Tara continues to work part‐time for the City. 3. We have applied or received a few grants. We have received two Sr. Resources Grants for our Health Clinic and one for the Benefits Counselor. We have recently applied for the Golden Wishes Grant from the Lord Foundation. 4. Programs continue to be very well received and well attended but Mike feels things have been a bit stagnant with very little opportunity to add new programming due to lack of staff. Mike is going to continue to ask the upper management to add an office coordinator. This will be Mike’s first priority when meeting with the new HS Director Chairperson report…. NONE Old Business… There has been no new information on the direct funding to Sr. Centers in this year’s State of Connecticut budget. New Business… Mike reported that Michael Lahan has informed him of his resignation from the Commission but the City has yet to receive a formal letter.
