Rose City Senior Center Senior Affairs Commission Meeting of October 24, 2022 Present Members: Frank Jacaruso, Rebecca Melucci, Lauriann Messore, Joanne Philbrick Present staff: Kate Milde and Mike Wolak Absent Michael Lahan Frank Jacaruso called meeting to order, as there was a quorum. Approval of the minutes –Minutes from September 19, 2022 meeting were approved Communications…Mike welcomed Kate and introduced her to the members of the Senior Affairs Commission Human Services Director report….Kate gave the members a synopsis of her background and talked about some of the staffing changes taking place in Human Services. Mike talked about the fact that Kate is meeting with him weekly to stay in tune with what is going at the Sr. Center. Joanne talked about seniors and the fact that they are the most underserved people in the community today. Director of the Senior Center report: 1. Mike talked about the “active shooter” report from Friday, October 21. He wanted to thank Laurieann Messore for alerting him of the incident. This incident did not include an all call to the Sr. Center but moving forward Mike was assured we would be on the list. a. Mike immediately put the Sr. Center in lockdown and was assisted by Outreach Administrator, Carolyn McAuliffe in securing the building for our seniors. 2. Mike has secured funding from the Lord Foundation for one pickle ball court and is trying to get addition funding thru ARPA funds for another court. These courts would hopefully be constructed in the gravel parking lot area on the North side of the center. Chairperson report…. NONE Old Business… Mike reported that there is no update to the direct funding for Senior Centers from the State of CT budget that began on 7/1/22 Frank asked about the storing of the busses when we are expecting bad weather. Mike indicated that he expects the usage of the McKinley Ave garage to be ok once again. New Business… Other Business…None NEXT Meeting: ***November 21, 2022 9:00am
