Rose City Senior Center Senior Affairs Commission Meeting of April 17, 2023 Present Members: Joanne Philbrick, Rebecca Melucci, Lauriann Messore Present staff: Kate Milde and Mike Wolak Absent Frank Jacaruso Rebecca Melucci called meeting to order, as there was a quorum. Approval of the minutes –Minutes from March 20, 2023 meeting were approved Communications… • Welcome Stacy Gould to our meeting today. • We received $150 donation from the AARP Chapter #1004 for the use of our space for their meetings. Human Services Director report…. Kate stated that we were able to present the budget with the Sr. Center Office Coordinator position back in, and will await the Councils final decision on the budget to see if it is approved. • Mike complimented Kate for getting this to be brought to this level, as it has been declined in the past 5-6 years. • Kate shared the new logo for Norwich Human Services • Kate also touched upon the CDBG that we applied for to expand our clinic services. This would be a partnership with Hartford Healthcare to provide a community nurse at the Sr. Center and in the community. Director of the Senior Center report: • Pickle ball court bid closes on Friday. We hope that work begins shortly thereafter. • Membership is at almost 1,300 and trending upwards • Kate would like to have a ribbon cutting when the pickle ball courts are complete. Chairperson report…. NONE but Mike brought up that the State allocation for direct funding to senior centers for RCSC is just under $100,000. Still waiting on more details for distribution Kate brought up the HB 5250 that is to create a fair rent commission in Norwich. Several departments will be involved. Old Business… None New Business… Rebecca brought up the need to have some services available to help seniors with home projects, lawn cutting, snowplowing and such. Looking for more assistance for seniors. Mike talked about having a handy-man book at one point that listed people willing got do odd jobs for seniors.
