City of Norwich Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Fund Committee Minutes Meeting #107, January 14, 2008 The Volunteer Firefighters’ Relief Fund Committee held its 107th meeting on Monday, January 14, 2008, at 5:00 p.m. in room 209, City Hall, Norwich, Connecticut. 1. Roll Call Members present were: Richard Benoit, Taftville Thomas Dawkins, Personnel Manager Karen Mankowski, Occum Donald Leary, East Great Plain Joshua Pothier, Assistant Comptroller Brian Curtin, City Treasurer Frank Davis, Citizen Appointee Red McKeon, Occum/Past Chairman Joseph Kochanski, Laurel Hill Art Meizner, Hooker & Holcombe Members absent were: Thomas Quinley, Yantic Joseph Ruffo, Comptroller Richard Benoit called the meeting to order at 5:05 p.m. 2. Minutes: Meeting minutes will be reviewed at the next scheduled meeting. Mr. Quinley is not able to attend today’s meeting do to work obligations. Mr. Dawkins will be recording tonight’s minutes. 3. Reports: Treasurer Report: Mr. Pothier distributed the November and December Treasurer’s Reports for review by Committee members. Treasurer’s Reports were approved. 4. Communications: None 5. Old Business: None 6. New Business a. Mr. Pothier distributed Census Data Forms to the Department Representatives for updates. The forms are to be returned at the next meeting if possible.  b. Hooker & Holcombe 1. Art Meizner from Hooker & Holcombe presented snapshot reports as of December 31, 2007. He discussed how the Fund would have done if it had been invested with Russell Company. 2. Mr. Benoit asked Mr. Meizner the re-cost of disbursement. Mr. Meizner answered the question. 3. Mr. Meizner stated the following: a. Rich Benoit will come into the Treasurer’s Office to sign investment authorization documents. b. Robin Lane will be in his office and available to answer questions related to paperwork. c. Meetings for the upcoming year: January 14, 2008 February 11, 2008 May 12, 2008 September 8, 2008 December 8, 2008 d. Donald Leary, EGP, presented a request by Gordon Reels, requesting a refund of monies. Approved. e. Donald Leary, EGP, presented Robert Deckert for membership in the Plan. Approved. f. Donald Leary, EGP, presented the question relating to Cadets participating in the Plan upon reaching the age of 18 years. Can the Cadets “buy-back” the 1-2 Cadet years?
