New Business –
Kay handed out and reviewed the Quarterly report sent to the City Manager which
highlights the addressed city goals, our accomplishments, our actions and the city
departments assisted.
Michelle Devine from SERAC enlisted our help to bring DEC or Drug Endangered
Children training to Norwich. The plan is to engage as many people who work with
children as possible in this important training and subsequently, to form a local
team to deal with situations involving children at risk in drug abusing families. We
are hoping for a liaison from every school and involvement from nurses, social
workers, and afterschool staff. Training will take place late January, early February
and be facilitated by DCF.
We will be inviting Jessuha Ballero to join our Board as a Community Member.
Norwich Prevention Council Subcommittee-
o Although we have not received the funding yet, the Youth Impacted by
Addiction group at Sachem Street School has begun and is flourishing.
o The NSPA had it’s required 4hr CONNECT training on October 24th . We had a
large, diverse membership, great food and no heat (Brrr). A core team will now
meet and plan events, trainings and media strategies for the next 6 months.
Next Board meeting will be January 14th 2013 from 8:30-10:00 am. Room 335 in City Hall
All are welcome!
