335 in Norwich City Hall. Those in attendance were as follows:
Jodi Vara-President
Angela Rae Duhaime-Community Member
Jamie Miller-Norwich Tech
Kay Eyberse- Coordinator NYFS
Guests: Deb Kievits
Absent:
Mark Irons-Juvenile Probation
Katie Wagner-NPS
Calla Tetreault
Vouise Fonville-DCF
Mike McKinney-NPD
The meeting was called to order at 8:40am.
Review of meeting minutes: The Board was unable to approve the minutes due to low attendance.
Two months will be reviewed at the next meeting.
YBS Programs: Kay updated the Board on Norwich Youth Action Council programming and the new
YSB/BullyBuster Theater collaborative. She briefed the Board on the consultations regarding
Children First and its ongoing struggles and will invite Sherry next meeting for an update. Summer is
coming down the pike and Summer Programming is being planned. SYEP money appears stable for
2015. It is becoming increasingly clear that space for Summer Jam will be an issue. Grants for that
program are due next month and space conversations are taking place now.
New Business:
• There are grave budget concerns across the State. YSBs are currently slated to be cut a total of
1.9 million dollars. CFN is in danger as well. There is tremendous advocacy work being done
across the state, by lobbyists and citizens alike. We will have a clearer idea by next meeting in
May of possible outcomes.
Norwich Prevention Council Subcommittee:
• Kay and Angela will schedule a council informational regarding Naloxone and opiods for
late April/early May
• Jodi, Jamie and Jessica are working together on Suicide prevention Week. It will be kicked
off the year by the 3rd annual “Take the First Step” walk on April 25th at Fontaine Field.
We are scheduling QPR trainings for interested schools.
