Youth and Family Advisory Board Meeting December 18th, 2018 Time: 8:45 a.m. Attendance Present: Angelo Callis (NYFS), Pat McMahon (Community Member), Jodi Savage (NFA), Jamie Miller (Norwich Tech), Tiana Powell (PFS), Gail Palladino Marsh (Juvenile Probation), Sue Dubb (Uncas Health). Excused: Erin Haggan (NYFS), Christine Goracy (PFS), Steve Callandar (Norwich PD), Deb Barber (DCF) Absent: Katelyn Wagner (Norwich Public Schools), Judith Post (Community Member), Kerri Sisson (Joshua Center). Review of October’s Meeting Minutes • Accepted by consensus. Old Business • Board Members Month in Review: o Jodi: NYAC starting meeting in October. They hosted Family Fun Night and had about 80 people in attendance, they did crafts and Santa came for photos. They are now working on a Beauty & the Beast movie night for Valentine’s Day, a puppet show to discuss germs to elementary school kids and a bullying project is in the works. The Earth Day Fair will be like last year only bigger this year! o Susan: All Uncas Health District employees have been Narcan trained. New Business • Vaping: The group discussed having LPC funds for vaping projects. Jamie Miller would like to have student and parent vaping program brought to Norwich Tech. • Narcan Distribution: Angelo, Christine and Deanna Delaney (Reliance Health Recovery Coach) went to downtown businesses to train them in how to use Narcan and distribute Narcan nose sprays. Norwich Prevention Council • LPC Grant: A needle exchange program is being brought to Norwich through the Norwich Heroin Task Force and Perceptions Program Inc., out of Willimantic. Erin has applied for a grant for Joining Forces to be held at Wequonnec Elementary School with Police Officers and students. • 21st Century Grant: Parent trainings will start in January, starting with a QPR training. Girls and boys groups are coming to end but we will start them up again in January with a new set of kids.
