January 21st, 2020 Time: 8:45 a.m. Attendance Present: Erin Haggan (NYFS), Tiana Powell (PFS), Rayallen Bergman (DFC), Jodi Savage (NFA), Kim Charles (Juvenile Probation), Kevin Difilippo (Dept. of Children and Families), Pat McMahon (Community Member), Katelyn Wagner (Norwich Public Schools), Sue Dub (Uncas Health), Mason Pellerin (Youth Member). Excused: Steve Callender (Norwich PD), Judith Post (Community Member) Unexcused: Jaime Miller (Norwich Tech), Kerri Sisson (Natchaug) Review of Motion to Accept October & November Meeting Minutes • Motion for both October & November minutes to be accepted was made and passed. Old Business • Board Members Month in Review: o Kevin: The Family First program in Norwich will start on February 5th. Kevin will have more information at the next meeting. o Pat: Pat serves as a Chair for the American Legion. They have a program that is available to sponsor seniors in high school that are interested in Political Science. The students would go to Washington D.C. to learn about bill writing, bills becoming laws and more. They can apply online. o Kim: There will be no more Family with Service Needs (FWSN) referrals to Juvenile Court. DCF and probation will have 15 slots on July 1st for MST in-home therapy that happens three times a week. The Juvenile Review Board (JRB) can make referrals. o Erin: Erin handed out flyers of upcoming events and programs. NYFS has also created a flyer with all of our offered programs/groups and their descriptions. The Parent Academy is available to all parents. o Sue: Uncas health recently hired someone to work on their Hep-C grant. She is working on a resource for detox, MAT and other treatment programs. This has been done in other areas but not ours. She did share that more people are coming to Penobscot instead of the van for the needle exchange. o Jodi: The Girls Circle group with ten girls will be ending thus week. She hopes to start another one in March. NYAC is working on Earth Day and the movie night with the Recreation Dept. • By-Laws: Erin went over different articles regarding the Youth & Family Advisory Board Meetings. Pat and Erin will work together on this. The group discussed adding a Public Health member and if the Director can be a board member. New Business • Tiana will remain as Secretary for one more month. • Fundraising discussion was tabled. Norwich Prevention Council • Local Prevention Council: Erin shared that we applied for the LPC grant and were awarded the grant. She wrote in a mentoring piece to have mentors from Creative Potential to work with kids for four months. • Norwich Prevention Council: Rayallen shared that the NPC will now be separate to accommodate the Drug Free Communities (DFC) grant.
