March 17th, 2020 Time: 8:45 a.m. Conference Calle Attendance Present: Erin Haggan (NYFS), Tiana Powell (PFS), Jodi Savage (NFA), Pat McMahon (Community Member), Katelyn Wagner (Norwich Public Schools), Judith Post (Community Member) Excused: Steve Callender (Norwich PD), Sue Dubb (Uncas Health District) Unexcused: Jaime Miller (Norwich Tech), Kerri Sisson (Natchaug) Review of Motion to Accept January Meeting Minutes • No quorum – motion tabled until May meeting Old Business • Board Members Month in Review: o Jodi: Her students are still working on Suicide Prevention Week. The events and plans of that week may change. o Kaitlyn: It’s a possibility that Norwich Public Schools will cancel events through the end of the school year. Kids and parents are requesting Voices! Joe Fortier, who was the School Counselor at Teacher’s Global Studies Middle Magnet School, will be leaving. o Pat: The Young Marines are currently not on the Coast Guard Academy grounds. All of their events are on hold. o Judith: Judith runs the Spiritual Empowerment Program for youth aged 11-14. They meet weekly in Norwich. They will learn to recognize limits like adults do. o Erin: City of Norwich are currently closed to the general public. Erin is offering over the phone/video therapy for her clients. New Business • Appoint Three Members: All appointees were not on the phone call. The group discussed having Mabel, the TOPS Coordinator, joining the Norwich Prevention Council. • Elect a new Secretary: Kaitlyn Wagner has volunteered and was elected. Thank you, Kaitlyn! Local Prevention Council • Nicotine compliance checks have been postponed. • Suicide Prevention Walk is still on as of right now. • We are working with Creative Potential for mentoring. We have students going right now through the Juvenile Review Board. • Erin will attend the ATTACH training where she will learn about attachment struggles with families that are fostering or adopting and kids with trauma. • Erin and Christine are writing a grant to hold a group under their Circle of Security training. They are thinking about purchasing refurbished computers as an incentive for parents. Parents can use the computers to access the materials.
