May 9 2023, 3pm Youth & Family Services Advisory 75 Mohegan Road 1. In Attendance: Erin Haggan (YFR), Sue Dubb (Uncas Health District), Gerald Dillenbeck (Community Member), Kimberly Siefert-Charles (Juvenile Probation), Jon Turban (NPS), Bob McKinney (School Recourse Officer), Jen Croce (Mobile Crisis), Sarah Warzecha (YFR) Absent: Michael Garcia (unexcused), Teairez Atunbi (excused) 2. Old Business: Review & Approval of March Minutes: Approved Program Updates : o Norwich Public Schools are not doing summer school 2023 in person o Summer camps are half full, preschool camp lacking registration, booklets will continue to be passed out. o Billboards in four languages for summer youth programs, staff are going to schools, providing program books Mohegan park, social media, 600 program books to still hand out. o Wellness walk will have mobile crisis 3. New Business Community Outreach/strategies for 2023: o Spring/summer booklet provided to all members at meeting o Promoting pro-social- adults/kids are spending a lot of time alone which has impacted peoples mental health o Senior center/kids take one teach one – connecting kids to teach seniors how to use their phone, Senior youth mentor program, seniors tutor o Dance – suggest people turn in phone, difference between screen time and social media o Summer youth employment kids – how to clean up social media, educate them on when it is appropriate to use their phone Community Concerns/Recommended Service’s Needs: o Trauma prevention – making the environment safer, trauma training  o Community concerns – there isn’t a voice or people may not feel comfortable speaking up about issues in their community. Are people aware of community meetings and is this something they are able to attend.
