Minutes Youth & Family Advisory Board Sept 12, 2023, 3pm Youth, Family, & Recreation Building 75 Mohegan Road 1. Roll Call – Erin Haggan (YFR), Kimberly Siefert-Charles (Juvenile Probation), Teairez Atunbi (DCF), Vivian Lau (NFA Student), Jondez Silvan (DCF Youth), Gerald Dillenbeck (Community Member), Bob McKinney (School Recourse Officer), Jen Croce (Mobile Crisis) Absent - Michael Garcia(Norwich tec)unexcused, Sue Dubb excused (Uncas Health District) 2. Review & Approve May Minutes - July Approved by all members 3. Old Business - Back to school resources – Human Services, Saint Vincent De Paul bookbag give away w/ supplies. -Community relationship building & strategy updates – Mentor, promote events through door to door by young adults, starting group/club in school which could filter into community events, go to middle school and NFA education & connection, Youth leaders to create grant proposal which can relate to a recreational center, Block Party - bus will complete 3 stops for to assist transportation for families – bouncy houses, DJ, sports, vendors. -Direct community data collection ideas/updates - Survey written, online possible have QR code to complete survey 4. New Business -Appointment of Youth Member – Vivian Lau was appointed, all were in favor –Vivian - Student counsel, volunteer – Backus hospital, played piano at senior centers, taught Chinese at middle school. -Election of Co-Chair – Gerald Dillenbeck, all were in favor. -Program Updates – Norwich Youth, Family, Recreation Fall book provided, highlighting block party, Link to view online, QR code will be provided so they can access from their phone. -Youth family coordinator still open position – closing date 9/15/23, -Norwich Youth, Family, and Family Services looking for peer advocate ages 18-25 (prevention, social media) -Chris Herren coming @ Three Rivers – hope to have him come early to have dinner with athletes, UCC – opened in New London -Youth Perceptions & Discussion regarding community needs, challenges & successes – having peers spread the word, - Open discussion & reaction to youth perceptions – Special meeting to include kids to participle in an open conversation to gain feedback on a agenda that will be created by the board.
