Street Address 447 NW Dory Dr Agenda Item Community Center/ Park & Rec Public Comment Hello, I recently attended a city council meeting that highlighted a lot of great things to come from our local parks & rec departments. I remember overhearing discussion of a community center next to the pool which I think sound phenomenal! I did want to reach out and express support in maintaining the skate park that is near that location. I have no idea how another building in that space would impact the skate park but I do hope that removing the skate park is NOT a consideration. The skate park provides an opportunity for people of ages to stay active and for many has helped them maintain their sobriety. Also, in the event there is grant money could be spread elsewhere, I hope the skate park can be considered for improvements such as benches for parents. Thank you for your time! We’re now starting the pre-design survey phase. Here is the anticipated schedule and work tasks, as far as we have outlined, for this phase- Geotechnical Investigations: 1. GeoTest –Notice to Proceed. Note: both South Whidby and Oak Harbor sites must be ready for the work to commence so GeoTest only mobilizes once. Don will coordinate. This will provide $1,500 savings to Oak Harbor Project on mobilization costs. 2. 7-10 days after Notice to Proceed , GeoTest mobilizes and begins working on the site. 3. Parks obtains 811 locates – send copy to GeoTest. 4. Parks and Ed Garcia from GeoTest arrange to meet on site – date and time confirmed. 5. Parks meets Ed on site and begins excavating pits. Each pit will be excavated to an initial depth of 3-4 ft., that allows the Geologist to physically get into the pit and take side wall samples. 6. Parks then excavates the pit to a full depth of 8-10 ft. Geologist takes samples from the buckets. 7. Parks prepares pits: 2’ – 4’ wide x 10 ft. deep. Survey: 1. Harmsen LLC Notice to Proceed. 2. Two weeks after Notice to Proceed, Harmsen mobilizes and begins field work. 3. Two weeks after field work, RWD should have enough information to start planning and design. Public Engagement: 1. RWD provides concept renderings and preliminary site design. 2. Scheduling of Parks & Recreation Commission Special Work Session for feedback and public comment. 3. …Additional tasks and the scheduling for the Work Session will be discussed at the next Commission meeting. Design: 1. …Tentative schedule of tasks forthcoming. We’ve also added Don to our Prism account for the RCO grants and he’ll be assisting us with the Community Outdoor Athletic Facilities grant and the Youth Athletic Facilities grant for the construction of the courts. Don has helped agencies win these grant awards for the past 12 years and has a good report with the RCO staff that administer the two grant programs. We’ll discuss more at the next commission meeting in a couple of weeks.
