Page 5 of 43 Page 6 of 43  A PROCLAMATION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCEAN SHORES, WASHINGTON WITH THE MAYOR CONCURRING, PROCLAIMING MARCH 2023 AS AMERICAN RED CROSS MONTH IN THE CITY OF OCEAN SHORES, WASHINGTON WHEREAS, in times of crisis, people in Ocean Shores come together to care for one another. This humanitarian spirit is part of the foundation of our community and is exemplified by American Red Cross volunteers and donors; and WHEREAS, in 1881, Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross, turning her steadfast dedication for helping others into a bold mission of preventing and alleviating people’s suffering. Today, more than 140 years later, we honor the kindness and generosity of Red Cross volunteers here in Hoquiam, who continue to carry out Clara’s lifesaving legacy. They join the millions of people across the United States who volunteer, give blood, donate financially, or learn vital life-preserving skills through the Red Cross; and WHEREAS, through disaster assistance and preparedness, health and safety training, service to armed forces, and Biomed in Ocean Shores, the contributions of local Red Cross volunteers and donors give hope to the most vulnerable in their darkest hours, whether it’s providing emergency shelter, food and comfort for families devastated by local disasters like home fires and recent floods, donating essential blood for accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease; supporting service members and veterans, along with their families and caregivers, through the unique challenges of military life; helping to save the lives of others with first aid, CPR and other skills; or delivering international humanitarian aid; and WHEREAS, their work to prevent and alleviate human suffering is vital to strengthening our community’s resilience. Kara is the first female Professional Firefighter hired by the City of Ocean Shores. As a volunteer with Ocean Shores Fire Department, she was extremely eager to learn as much as she could, she was determined to learn and be an asset to the Ocean Shores Fire Department and help the citizens of Ocean Shores As she was gaining experience as volunteer, she didn’t want to wait for local classes in Grays Harbor. Kara found and put herself through a Fire Academy and EMT training. In January of 2020 she was hired as a Firefighter/EMT. She brings many skills sets to our Fire Department we are so grateful to have her as a part of this team. As part of her experience, Kara was involved in the media world. The ability to utilize her skills and have her part of our media support team and a PIO for Ocean Shores Fire Department has been a great asset to the department. In 2021 she had been voted in as the President of the Firefighters Association and has overseen several Fire departments functions you see throughout the year such as Easter Egg Hunt, Halloween party at the convention center and Turkey Bingo in Ocean Shores. Page 9 of 43 Page 10 of 43  VFW POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR RECOGNITION Sgt. Iversen has been with the Ocean Shores Police Department since 1993, when he started his career as a Reserve Officer. In January 1997, he accepted a position as a full-time Police Officer, which was the beginning of a very successful career as he represents himself, his family and the Ocean Shores Police Department with the utmost respect and honor. During his career with the Ocean Shores Police Department, Sgt. Iversen has served as the Reserve Officer Section Coordinator, Marine Patrol Officer and Section Coordinator, and has served as a Bike Patrol Officer. He has been a TASER Instructor for the department and has held the position of Detective. And, he has been a Special Operations Team member and he has been a Team Leader on the Surf Rescue Team. On January 1, 2021, he took a huge step forward in his career by accepting a much- deserved promotion to his current rank of Sergeant. Sgt. Iversen currently serves as a Marine Patrol Officer in the summer, and in the winter he and his wife have done an amazing job of volunteering with the local Shop With A Cop program each year. During his 26 years of service, Sgt. Iversen has received multiple letters of appreciation and certificates of commendation, along with earning the very prestige’s Medal of Merit. Of which, he has earned 4 times for his courageous acts performing surf rescues. I can not speak enough about Sgt. Iversen’s selfless acts he is continuously doing for this community, of which never get talked about, and he asks for no recognition. I have witnessed several myself, but mostly hear about them from citizens who write in Thank You letters. Whether it is helping people dig their vehicles out of the sand when they get stuck on the beach, or helping an elderly person take their groceries in to their house from their car or paying for someone’s meal and bus ticket when they are down on their luck. Sgt. Iversen never ceases to amaze me with his kindness that goes above and beyond his duties as a police officer. And because of all of this, I am very honored to nominate Sgt. The City looks forward to her starting next month. • Ocean Shores Fire Department: 1. Ocean Shores Fire Department members went to North Beach High School for Career Day to speak about the Fire Service and how to volunteer with the our fire department. 2. The Fire Department received 3 donated vehicles from Avalon towing to train on vehicle extrication.. 3. Ocean Shores Firefighters Association is offering scholarships this year. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OCEAN SHORES, WASHINGTON, DECLARING CERTAIN MISCELLANEOUS EQUIPMENT AS UNSERVICEABLE, INADEQUATE, OBSOLETE, WORN OUT OR UNFIT AND NO LONGER NECESSARY; AND AUTHORIZING DISPOSAL OF THE SURPLUS EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS WHEREAS, the City is authorized by RCW 35A.11.010 to sell convey, lease or otherwise dispose of property which is unserviceable, inadequate, obsolete, worn out or unfit and is no longer necessary, material to, or useful in the City’s operations; and WHEREAS, through the course of its general government and utility activities, the City accumulates miscellaneous equipment which is unserviceable, inadequate, obsolete, worn out and/or unfit to be used in the City’s operations; and WHEREAS, it would be in the best public interest to dispose of unused miscellaneous equipment as it accumulates; and WHEREAS, pursuant to RCW 35.94.040, a public hearing was held on January 8, 2018 relating to the proposed surplus of the property; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ocean Shores, Washington that the miscellaneous equipment listed in Exhibit “A” hereto is deemed surplus to the City operation and declared as unserviceable, inadequate, obsolete, worn out or unfit and is no longer necessary. FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ocean Shores that the Mayor or her designee is authorized, pursuant to Washington State Law, to dispose of such equipment. On the 25TH of each month the Food Bank will provide a receipt and invoice reflecting monthly expenditures to the City’s Accounts Payable Department at ap@osgov.com. 2. The City will distribute a reimbursement to the Food Bank once approved by the City Council Warrant Committee.
