City of Oconomowoc Architectural Commission Meeting Minutes July 6, 2022 Chairman Flint called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. Members Present: Schrang, Johnson, Flint, Krogstad and Schultz Staff Present: Weber, Gallo, Duffy and Dehnert 2. Approve the June 8, 2022 Minutes: Motion by Johnson to approve the June 8, 2022 minutes; second by Schrang. Weber requested clarification if it was the members intent that any request for a monument or tenant sign over 8’ in height plus delta located off Summit Avenue in the Olympia Fields development should come back to the members for approval. The members agreed that any sign over 8’ should come back for review and that they should provide height and grade change when presenting. Motion carried 5-0. 3. Pet Supplies Plus – Consider/approve building plans at 1450 Summit Street: Weber explained the applicant presented their building plans at last month’s meeting, and the members proposed changes and requested they come back. The applicant updated the plans which reflect turning the corner with building materials as requested and included relief and the Sendik’s logo on the south elevation. Weber noted no specifics were provided for the signage, which cannot be acted on this evening, but requested that the members give their feedback on its inclusion on the south elevation of the Pet Supplies Plus building. Weber recommended approval with considerations listed in the background. Cameron McFarland and Ken Krahe of MSI described the changes they made to the plans based on the member’s feedback last month. Members comments included: suggested adding the same coping profile shown on the building between the Pet Supplies Plus and the next tenant to a portion of the south elevation; suggested getting rid of the recessed block areas; proposed a 4” relief to make the sign panel stand out; paint the second and third sections of the building brown; include the gray color around the sign panel and make the area directly behind the Sendik’s sign brown; and completely remove all recessed areas on the south elevation. Weber clarified the sign has to come back for approval, and the applicant can either amend their master sign plan to accommodate its size and then request approval of the sign or request a special exemption for the sign due to it being larger than the maximum size per code. Motion by Johnson to approve the building plans for Pet Supplies Plus at 1450 Summit Avenue subject to: the coping shown on the building directly to the north of the front entrance should be installed on the first section of painted brick on the south elevation; the area around the Sendik’s sign should project out 4” and include gray paint but the background of the sign should remain brown brick; the coping of the Sendik’s sign area should also match the coping (especially the thickness) shown on the building directly to the north of the front entrance; and remove the remaining recessed areas of the south elevation and paint the rest of the building brick brown; second by Schultz. Motion carried 4-0-1 (Krogstad abstained). 4. Reports and comments from the City Planning Department: Staff said there have been a lot of meetings on the various projects going on in the city and believes more items will be forthcoming, but they take time to get to the point where they get acted on. 5. Reports and comments from the Architectural Commissioners: None. 6. Adjourn: Motion by Schrang to adjourn at 4:58 pm; second by Johnson. Motion carried 5-0. Chris Dehnert, Deputy City Clerk S:Clerk\Committees-Commissions\Architectural\2022\ACMin 7-6-22
