Police & Fire Commission Meeting Minutes – May 9, 2019 Secretary Wiemer called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm and the Deputy Clerk confirmed appropriate meeting notice had been given. Members present: Antonneau, Le Duc, Mercier and Wiemer Members excused: Krauski and Non-Voting Council Representative Rosek Staff present: Buerger, Kitsembel and Wallace 2. Approve minutes from March 6, 2019 meetings: Motion by Le Duc to approve the March 6, 2019 minutes as written; second by Mercier. Motion carried 4-0. 3. Chief to appoint new Police Lieutenant: Buerger stated Brad Timm has been employed by the City of Oconomowoc Police Department since September of 2000 and is married with 3 children. He graduated from UW-Parkside with a degree in nursing. He started his law enforcement career in Milwaukee in 1999 and came to Oconomowoc in September of 2000. He has spent his career on night shift as an officer and supervisor. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2000. In addition, he is a field trainer, a Liason for taverns and he is involved in special event Planning. Also, he is responsible for the physical aptitude testing. He is a dedicated, hardworking, passionate, thorough and a team player. Buerger requested the appointment of Brad Timm to the position of Police Lieutenant. 4. Consider/act on appointment confirmation: Motion by Le Duc to confirm Chief Ron Buerger’s appointment of Brad Timm to the position of Police Lieutenant; second by Mercier. Motion carried 4-0. 5. Introduction of Police Lieutenant: Brad Timm thanked everyone. He is very humbled to see his friends, family and co-workers in attendance. The members congratulated him on his appointment. 6. Chief to appoint new Police Sergeant: Buerger stated Chris Graziano has been employed by the City of Oconomowoc Police Department since February of 2008 and is married with 4 children. He started his law enforcement career as a military police officer from 1997 to 2005. While in the military he obtained his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He started in night shift and eventually went to the evening shift and has moved up that ranks to officer in charge. In addition, he is a field training officer and field training program coordinator. He coordinates the intern program through WCTC. He is a fire arms instructor and he is a motorcycle and boat officer. He is a leader, strong integrity, team player, selfless, hardworking and doesn’t hate to get involved or take charge when necessary. Buerger requested the appointment of Chris Graziano to the position of Police Sergeant. 7. Consider/act on appointment confirmation of Police Sergeant: Motion by Le Duc to confirm Chief Ron Buerger’s appointment of Chris Graziano to the position of Police Sergeant; second by Mercier. Motion carried 4-0. 8. Introduction of Police Sergeant: Chris Graziano thanked everyone, and he is very excited. He’s looking forward to the opportunity ahead of him to continue to teach and learn. Update of current hiring process: Buerger stated back on February 6, 2019 he received authorization to begin the hiring process. Currently the department has one vacancy and another in July of this year. He explained the hiring process. They advertised on the Wilenet website, in the Lake Country newspapers and the City’s social media site. The department accepted applications for 5 weeks. They received 49 initial applications, 19 met the qualifications, 15 submitted the paperwork in time to take the test and of the 15, 14 had a passing score and did the Physical Aptitude Test. Two failed. Twelve candidates will participate in oral interviews in May. Background checks will be done on the top 3 applicants. A Conditional Offer of Employment will be given and is contingent upon a physical, psychological and drug test and then come back to the Commission for an appointment. 10. Comments from Police & Fire Commission members: None. Motion by Mercier to adjourn; second by Antonneau. Motion carried 4-0.
