Protection & Welfare Committee Meeting Minutes
June 6, 2017
Chairman Rosek called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.
Members Present: Aldermen Shaw, Schmidt and Rosek
Staff Present: Mayor Nold, Kitsembel, Duffy, Frye, Pickart, Buerger, Gallo, Osborn, Sullivan, Steinbach
and Dehnert
Others Present: Alds. Zwart, Strey, Ellis and Kowieski, and Atty. Riffle
2. Consider/recommend Granting Renewal of 2017-2018 Alcohol Beverage Licenses:
Rosek said an updated resolution was presented to the committee due to a licensee who had become current on
City obligations. Motion by Schmidt to recommend granting renewal of 2017-2018 alcohol beverage licenses;
second by Shaw. Motion carried 3-0.
3. Consider/recommend Expressing Intent Not to Renew 2017-2018 Alcohol Beverage Licenses and
Direct City Clerk to send Notice of such Intent to Each Licensee and Set Hearing Date:
Dehnert reported the licensees on the updated resolution have outstanding issues due to non-compliance with
City Codes or State Statutes. This resolution is the first step for the City Clerk to notify the licensees that Council
may not renew their license. The Clerk’s office will schedule hearings for each licensee before Council on June
20, 2017 at 7:30 pm. Dehnert noted the list could change as one of the licensees may come into compliance by
the 20th. In that case a separate resolution will be provided to Council for approval of their license. Motion by
Shaw to recommend expressing intent not to renew 2017-2018 alcohol/beverage licenses as presented and direct
the City Clerk to send notice of such intent to each licensee and set the hearing date for June 20, 2017; second by
Schmidt. Motion carried 3-0.
Schmidt inquired of the status of the 3 outstanding requests for a liquor license. Dehnert explained the requests
are being held until the committee wants to move them forward. Schmidt said they should not move forward until
an applicant has a set plan for a business. Schmidt also requested a future agenda item to discuss the potential
of setting a certain number of licenses on hold so that there are always licenses available in the City.
Motion by Shaw to adjourn; second by Schmidt. Motion carried 3-0. The meeting adjourned at 6:06 PM.
