Members Present: Nikki Lovell Brenda Burrup Nicole Lovell Stephanie Grundie Erme Terrazas Ashley Wilson LouAnn Kamigalo Cmdi Hellewell Diane Nelson Andrew Garcia Sub Committee: Jo Packham Diana Lopez Camryn Faiola Members Absent: Craig Bielik Sandra Tuck Maralyn Mazza Keri Ritz Ex-Officio: Jacob ChadWick, Parks Equipment Operator Stacey Olsen, Project Coordmator APPROVAL OF MINUTES Ms Wilson called the meeting to order and asked for a motion to approve the minutes. Ms. Nelson motioned to approve the minutes from November 14, 2017. Ms. Hellewell seconded. Committee approved. GREETINGS Ms. Wilson thanked everyone for commg. She said the committee worked very hard last year and tlns dinner is to thank all of you She thanked Ms. Packham for hosting and making tlns dinner sometlnng special for everyone. Ms Wilson, mtroduced Diana Lopez, she is the Commuruty Outreach Coordinator and Camryn "Cami" Faiola, she is a Police Officer Both of them wtll be able to help guide us in our growth and give us drrection. VICE CliA.IR SELECTION Ms. Wilson said each year, we select a new vice charr. This person will be the chair the following year. Ms. Lovell nominated Ms. Hellewell for the Vice Charr position. Ms. Wilson asked tfthere were any other nominations With no other nominations, Ms. Lovell motioned we appoint Ms. Hellewell as Vice Chair for the 2018 Christmas Village Committee. Ms. Kamigaki seconded. Committee approved ' COMMUNITY COMMENTS Ms. Wilson asked if everyone saw the email Ms Olsen sent out wtth all the different comments from the community. She asked if there were any questions, comments, concerns we would like to discuss based off the comments. The committee felt many of the suggestions were contradictory to what we want to do, like add more vendors and advertise more. PAGE 2 OF 3 I 2018THEME Next year IS the 150-year anniversary for the first train that came into Ogden, so to lock off their celebrations It would be fun to have a train theme. Ms Lovell said last year we talked about having "All Aboard" as our theme. The committee all liked that theme. Ms Lovell motioned the 2018 Christmas Village theme be, "All Aboard". Ms Grundie seconded. Committee approved SWEATSHIRT DESIGN Ms. Wilson asked everyone to be thinking about a design for the sweatshirt to go with the theme, All Aboard. Ms. Lovell shared some history of the train in front of the Union Station called the "Gratitude Train". When WWII was over, the French wanted to thank us, so they gave us one of the train cars that was used to transport the Amencans throughout Europe There were 49 tram cars so every state received a train car filled with gifts. She thought it would be cute to have the train on the shirt with gifts popping out the top Ms Lovell also said it would be fun to find a train whistle to put m all the trains. BREAKFAST~THSANTA Ms Kamigaki smd that she met with Ms. Lovell and Mr. Bielik and discussed making some changes to the entertainment portion of the breakfast. Mr. Bielik has a friend that does magic tricks with a projector and wanted to see if he would be interested in performing. They also met wtth the Chef at the Ben Lomond and expressed their disappomtment with the breakfast. They agreed that it was not a great breakfast and will ,do something better next year Ms Lovell asked if the City would be able to get a room at the Union Station donated. Ms Olsen will contact them and see if we can get a room donated. Ms. Packham said if we do get the room donated, she will sponsor the linens Ms Lopez, satd she Will contact some local businesses and see if they will be willing to cater the breakfast as a donation or at a discounted rate. Ms. Faiola, suggested contactmg the ATC catering. Ms. Lovell mentioned that if we have the breakfast at the Uruon Station, it would be cute and fit the theme, but it would be a lot of work. If we keep the location at the hotel, there are some issues we need to address The banquet room was dirty, the kitchen was dirty, and we had no garbage cans Ms. Lovell said if we do use the Union Statton, we would need to decorate the room and set everything up OPEN DISCUSSION Ms. Olsen stated that we have a new Manager for Parks and Cemetery, Monte Stewart was given this job. He will also be over the Christmas Village His office is at the Community Service Butldmg located at 1875 Monroe. He would hke to move our meetings to that location If no one has any objections None ofthe committee members objected. Ms. Packham would like to be more mvolved this year. She would like to make the amphitheater her project. She would like to get some sort of lighting at the amphitheater when there are not performers. Ms Packham visited Thanksgivmg Point during Christmas and saw some fun ideas we could implement here. They had some photo ops throughout therr holiday display. PAGE 3 OF 3 and make a place for couples or families to have their pictures taken We could have cute signs saymg· Lovers take pictures here, Family Photo Op Ms Packham said they also had 100 lanterns on poles with lights that looked like candles lighting up the pathways and the stable area Ms. Kamigaki asked how we get nommated for "The Best of Utah Award". Ms Packham said we need to look into the categories they have and see if we meet the requirements. Ms Lovell asked Ms. Packham If she has any connections with any magazines that would feature the Christmas Village. Ms. Packham said she does and will reach out to them Mr Terrazas, reported that the train will be moved next year. It was interfering wtth the Fue Fighters Memorial. The train has also worn out the tracks, it keeps derailing He has been working on the Lorin Farr Train, he is hopmg to have it up and runntng for next year and place in the west side of the park Ms. Packham said it is in our decorating gUidelmes to have something moveable in their cottage, but we need to start enforcmg It. They need to have somethmg that is movmg, flashing or blinking. Somethmg to add some excitement to the cottages. NEXT MEETING The next meeting for the Christmas VIllage Advisory Committee IS Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 4:00pm The meeting location is at the Community Service Building located at 1875 Monroe. ADJOURNMENT With no further business to discuss, Ms. Kamigaki motioned to adjourn, motion seconded by Ms. Lovell.
