MEETING MINUTES Ogden City Arts Advisory Committee Regular Meeting 2549 Washington Blvd. Room 310 Ogden, UT 84401 801-629-8718 In Attendance: Michael Palumbo, Susan Campbell, Camille Washington, Jake McIntire, Todd Oberndorfer, Jan Hamer, Shane Osguthorpe Scott Patria, Franco Cirilo, Cam McLeod, Jessica McCowin Excused: Deja Mitchell Absent: Lauren Argo, Brandon Long Staff Present: Regina Esparza, Derek Williamson, Viviana Felix, Lorie Buckley, Beth Bell Tuesday, February 9, 2020 –8:30 A.M. Virtual Zoom Meeting • Welcome and Call to Order – Todd Oberndorfer • Approval of January minutes. Motion to approve - Jan Second to approve - Franco • First Friday Art Stroll Hybrid (February) – Lorie Buckley • February’s hybrid art stroll had people out but a little more than December. Gina has been going out and sharing the open locations with live posts. Todd said the Argo House and The Monarch had quite a few people out there due to the new exhibits. The ribbon cutting event for Ogden Contemporary Arts was also mentioned. • Arts Grants Open/ Workshop – Lorie Buckley • The grants are translated in Spanish and on the website. There were about a total of 10 people that joined the two workshops with questions. • The $100k budget is still being used for the upcoming cycle period. • Public Art – Lorie Buckley • The Grant Ave Junction Wall project has been signed and is in route through Cobblestone, with finance, legal and the CAO office. • The Corner artist is under contract. The Dumke design is done but working on final details. The ribbon cutting event is Friday, February 26 at noon. The invite list is small, but you can follow along on FB. Construction is supposed to start on March 1 and be done by mid-October. • New Projects will be submitted for ranking to the city planners, admin, arts advisory committee and city council by Lorie. Some projects in the works are the tunnel murals, stairs, 4th Street and Lester Park ideas. • An idea for Don Rimx video is to maybe have a video booth during the art stroll or another time where people can ask questions and he can answer them later. • Creative District – Jake McIntire • The Arts Plaza • Sasaki is designing a sculptor piece to have it go over 25th Street like a bridge. It is 30% designed but admin and engineering has not signed off on it yet. It is perforated metal to be like a beaken. • The section of Ogden Avenue and the plaza design is approved and is at 30 % design. • Another piece for UTA is to have art at the bus stations and focus on the glass panels. Some of the art maybe funded by public art money, weber state and intermountain Health is asking for Ramp funding. However, before the public art money is approved it was suggested to make sure that another project that can make more of an impact is looked at before saying yes. • The arts plaza is being presented at the Public Session for anyone wanting to join. • An artist call was suggested about people wearing masks. Have signage, posters etc. to campaign around town. • The MA campaign was in January and well received. The connection magazine will come out the articles about each honoree. If we have the MA in the Fall, we may have 2020 and 2021 honorees at the event depending on the Covid-19 status. • Another idea was to have an art award for someone who actively doing something during the pandemic to support the arts. • Videos and online presence good for the Mayor’s Awards. • Make Ogden Project- Lorie will ask Brandon Cooper to see if there is a plan for the committee to review to look over. • Arts Committee Arts of Diversity Poetry/ Visual Project (update) – Jan/Jake/Camille • There are no updates. • Mayors Awards in the Arts – Lorie Buckley • The MA campaign was in January and well received. It seemed to not have a lot of marketing but was a good presentation. • Deja said in an email that maybe we can talk about the recycle project that was mentioned before. Have recycled projected and make a sculpture of some sort. Maybe there is a grant to support this? Lorie will look into it. • Tunes at Noon or some sort of music series will it be happening at the Muni or Amphitheater? As of now nothing yet per Derek Williamson, Ogden Amphitheater Coordinator. • Committee News and upcoming events • Michael – Chamber Orchestra Ogden has their Red Dress Event on January 23, 2021. They will attempt to break up the musicians into three groups to sanitize in between. There are free tickets for committee members. • Lauren – absent • Brandon – The Open House at The Monarch makes it comfortable for everyone to enjoy. They have a mask requirement, sanitation stations and a check in desk at the front doors. Plus, the Celtic Beat will have their event at Perry’s in March. • Camille – Onstage Ogden will have an event at The Monarch on the 29th at 6 and 8:30 p.m. featuring the Leonard Patit Trio. • Jake – N/A • Deja – N/A • Franco – N/A • Jan – N/A except for school • Susan – N/A • Todd – He may have the Dean Debra Uman at the next meeting. • Cam – He has a commercial project with Jo Blake that he has been working on. And a multimedia project with Ogden Contemporary Arts. • Jess – N/A • Shane – The Proper Way has performed at Compass Rose Lodge. The location is using precautions, spacing people out and have their last event on March 6. Ogden City Limits has another episode out. • Scott – Has a few non-Ogden related projects and the Untamed Pops for the Summer. • Gina – Gave an update about the Marshall White Center and the survey that is out. • Beth – The Corner is open on a limited basis as of now due to Covid-19. • Public Questions & Attendance • Jeremy Shinoda – Ogden Diversity Commission Member • A new series with about Diversity is being worked on with the commission. • Viviana Felix – Ogden Diversity Commission • Adjourn • Motion to Adjourn – Shane • 2nd – Mike • 9:54 a.m. – meeting adjourned.
