APPROVAL OF JULY 28, 2022 MEETING MINUTES • The Committee did not have a quorum, so the minutes could not be approved during this meeting. This will be held until November’s meeting. SUBCOMMITTEE UPDATES • Jonathan stated that since he had an official tablecloth with the Committee’s name on it and flyers to hand out at the Farmers Market, that he had a great turnout. Dan created a QR code so people could go straight to the application site for the Committee. He was asked some questions during the Farmers Market that he couldn’t answer regarding business recycling and water conservation. Jay stated that the city doesn’t do commercial recycling, but that Momentum Recycling is trying to get recycling to the businesses. Jay can get more information to the Committee regarding this program. Another question was whether the City was following all the water restrictions that have been put in place and whether the school districts have to follow the water restrictions. Jay stated that the city does follow all guidelines, however the school districts are not part of the city so we can only give them recommendations on what they should be watering. • Jonathan also asked about water usage information for residents. Jay stated that on our old utility billing system there was graphs sent out on the bill showing water usage. The new software doesn’t have this feature yet, but they are working on getting it integrated with the new software. • Aimee asked if they could get a committee brochure with a QR code for more information, printed in English and Spanish on recycled paper. They also asked if we could get more information posted on the Sustainability Committee webpage. Mara said that the new Sustainability Coordinator could work on updating the website and flyers with information. Aimee also asked if we could get a list of phone numbers in the city where a Spanish speaker could call and get answers to their questions. Mara said the city could work on creating a business card that includes important phone numbers in the city that the Committee could hand out to the public. 1|Page HB411 UPDATES • The City Council will be holding a community forum before the end of the year to get more public feedback on the Community Renewable Energy Program. Weber State will be involved with this community conversation as well. Mara will get the date to the committee once it is announced. COMMITTEE OPEN DISCUSSION • The November meeting falls on Thanksgiving, so the Committee has decided to hold the meeting on November 17th, at 4:00 pm instead of on the 24th. • Aimee had inquired about the “flip the strip” program response. Meggin talked with the water department, and they have received 44 applications and have performed 16 pre-inspections so it’s been a good response from the citizens overall. • Mara reported that the city has opened a full-time Sustainability Coordinator position. This position will close on October 11th. There has been a good response to the position. This position will be responsible for staffing the Sustainability Committee as well as creating a sustainability plan for the city. • Mara reported that they have reviewed the current applications for the committee and have decided to move forward with two of the applicants. These will be submitted to the Mayor and City Council for approval. PUBLIC COMMENT • Jennifer Bodine from WSU attended the meeting and wanted to let the Committee know that she is very excited to hear of the new Sustainability Coordinator position that Ogden City is currently taking applications for.
