Minutes of the meeting of the Natural Resources and Sustainability Stewardship Advisory Committee held Thursday, May 23rd, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in-person at the city offices and via electronic web conferencing in accordance with Utah Code 52-4- 202. Lorenzo called the roll. All members introduced themselves, including the two new members Lena Morgan and Kaiya Clark. Julez Garcia also introduced himself, who will be considered for appointment to the committee in a few weeks. • The committee also briefly discussed quorum rules and requirements. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES • The March 28th and April 25th, 2024 meeting minutes were unanimously approved. EVENTS DEBRIEF • Steve and Lorenzo gave a recap of their participation at the Twilight Concert Series providing recycling to concertgoers. They collected over 35 pounds of plastic cups, water bottles, and aluminum cans. Lorenzo said that going to the various trash cans and picking recycled materials out of the top proved to be an effective method. o Tara asked whether recycling bins could be placed around the venue. Lorenzo said that it is a possibility, but that ultimately people would probably throw non-recyclable materials into the bins, defeating the purpose. o They suggested bringing extra gloves and some giveaway earplugs. o Other ideas for the Twilight Concerts included having student volunteers stand by cans, or having food waste collection. 1|Page  • Lorenzo said the EV charging station “Plug-in Celebration” went really well and was attended by a good crowd. The mayor, a councilmember, the director of public services, and a representative from Rocky Mountain Power spoke at the event. • Lorenzo gave a brief recap of the Wilkes Summit down in Salt Lake City. It’s a free summit, so committee members may be able to attend next year. UPCOMING EVENTS • The committee confirmed time slots for the Weber Basin Water Garden Fair • The committee discussed logistics for the next Twilight Concert. ANNUAL REPORTING/PLANNING • The committee discussed the creation of the annual report that is presented to the city council each year. Normally the chair goes and presents the report in-person to the council. The committee will need to create this report in the next few months. • They also discussed the sunset report, which talks about what the committee has done for the past three years, and what the plan is for the next three years. This is normally done near the end of the calendar year. • The committee discussed upcoming chair and vice chair elections, which will be done via email. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS • Energy Wise Subcommittee o Dan said that he had a subcommittee meeting with two members of the public, one who works for UDOT, and one who works for the Department of Water Quality. Dan gave some background about the Energy Wise Ogden plan to the new members of the committee. The subcommittee will be contacting Utah Clean Energy to discuss options available to businesses. • EV Charging/Parking Subcommittee o No update at this time. The subcommittee gave background on what they’re working on, including looking at city code to see where EV parking requirements could be implemented. • Recycling Subcommittee o See the “event debrief” section for more details on recent recycling subcommittee activities o Stephanie will be taking the lead on organizing the Twilight Concert recycling efforts. She will also be tracking the weight of the recycled materials so that the committee can report to city council at the end of the summer. PUBLIC COMMENTS • N/A OPEN DISCUSSION • Lorenzo suggested the committee have an in-person meeting with food. • Jonathan talked about how the committee used to be more of a think tank. However now, he feels that the committee has become more action-oriented, which is a positive change.
