Minutes of the meeting of the Sustainability Committee held Thursday, September 26th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. in-person at the city offices and via electronic web conferencing in accordance with Utah Code 52-4-202. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES • Kaiya made a motion to approve the August 22nd, 2024 meeting minutes. Julez seconded the motion. The meeting minutes were unanimously approved. EVENTS RECAP • Farmers Market o The market was pretty quiet, not much engagement. A few people took the survey. Some mentioned concerns about recycling and the pickup schedule being every other week. The committee discussed providing some sort of raffle or gift to get people to approach the table. • Twilight Concerts o Erika gave bins to the bartenders to put recyclables in. o The committee discussed the idea to provide the ability to purchase a reusable souvenir cup for next year’s Twilight Concert Series. o Jonathan and Tara did an experiment where they did nothing at the Twilight Concert. They put the bin out and sat at the table. They did not grab any recycling out of the trash cans. They found that they got far less recyclable materials. 1|Page SUNSET REPORT COORDINATION • The committee discussed the preparation of the sunset report, which needs to be presented to Council before December 31st, 2024. • Dan will draft the report by taking the material from the past two annual reports, plus whatever Jonathan remembers from three years ago. • Steve said that the Council would need a transmittal from Mara. Lorenzo will work on the transmittal. • The committee discussed the feedback questions seen in the previous sunset report. Whether or not they are required, the committee decided they’d like to do some sort of feedback to help improve the committee. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS • Energy Wise Subcommittee o Have a meeting scheduled for 5:15 on Oct. 1st at Grounds for Coffee. • EV Charging/Parking Subcommittee o No updates at this time, however Jonathan met someone who works for UDOT who may have some information on grants or other funds that could be available to Ogden for EV charging. Lorenzo will contact him. • Recycling Subcommittee o The subcommittee had a meeting and came up with a few ideas. They want to start a recycling guild on downtown 25th street. They would provide resources for the businesses related to recycling, food waste, glass recycling, etc. They also would like to do an art contest for Ogden-area kids to create a sticker that could be displayed in the windows of these businesses who are part of the guild. o Lena mentioned that many of the businesses want to do these things but can’t because there’s no space to put the big bins and other stuff. o Kaiya will talk to the Environmental Club at Ogden High School about the sticker competition. o Lorenzo mentioned that the recycling subcommittee should also spread information about the Energy Wise Ogden plan as they do outreach to those businesses. PUBLIC COMMENTS • N/A OPEN DISCUSSION • Erika suggested that Ogden highlight city committees in the Ogden Magazine. Lorenzo said he would talk to the city and see if that is a possibility. • Erika also asked if there was a way to track volunteer hours as a committee. Lorenzo said he could try to calculate it.
