City of Olathe City Council 14160 W Black Bob Road | Education Center/Board Room Thursday | February 21, 2019 | 6:00 PM 1. CALL TO ORDER Present: Bacon, Brownlee, McCoy, and Copeland Absent: Campbell, Randall, and Vogt Board of Education members present: Shannon Wickliffe, Joe Beveridge, Brent McCune, Rick Schier, LeEtta Felter, Brian Geary. Amy Martin was absent. Others in attendance: Michael Wilkes, City Manager; Susan Sherman, Assistant City Manager; Ron Shaver, City Attorney; and other city directors. 2. INFORMATION - PRESENTATIONS A. Portrait of a Graduate and Olathe 2040 Erin Vader, Assistant Director of Communications for the City of Olathe and Dr. Jessica Dain, Assistant Superintendent of Support Services for Olathe Public Schools gave presentations about the 20-year Strategic Planning Process for both the city and the district. B. Mental Health Initiatives College and Career Ready Coordinator, Angie Salava gave a presentation on mental health initiatives for the school district. C. School Safety Dr. Jim McMullen, Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools, introduced Olathe Police Chief Menke and Deputy Fire Chief Richards. Police Chief Menke spoke about the School Resource Officer (SRO) program. Deputy Fire Chief Richards talked about the future training center to be built near Olathe West High School and the educational opportunities it will provide for students. Dr. McMullen talked about the strong partnership and collaboration they have had with the City. D. Other Topics None Page 1 of 2 City Council Meeting Minutes February 21, 2019 3. OTHER BUSINESS A. Looking ahead to future meetings Both the City and School District will continue to collaborate to benefit the community. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Olathe City Council convened an executive session at 7:15 p.m. Councilmember Bacon moved that the Olathe City Council recess into an executive session for consultation with the City's attorneys which would be deemed privileged in the attorney-client relationship pursuant to the exception provided in K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(2) pertaining to an easement and for preliminary discussions related to acquisition of property pursuant to the exception provided in K.S.A. 75-4319(b)(6) for a discussion of the acquisition of real property in south Olathe for 15 minutes. Seconded by Councilmember McCoy and passed by the following vote: Yes: Bacon, Brownlee, McCoy, and Copeland Absent: Campbell, Randall, and Vogt RECONVENE FROM EXECUTIVE SESSION City Council exited the executive session at 7:30 p.m. Motion by Councilmember Bacon, seconded by Councilmember McCoy to authorize staff to proceed with the strategies as discussed with and directed by the Governing Body. Motion passed by the following votes: Yes: Bacon, Brownlee, McCoy, and Copeland Absent: Campbell, Randall, and Vogt ADJOURNMENT Adjourned 7:30 p.m. David F.
