City of Olathe City Council Lake Olathe, Eagles Landing 425 S. Ward Cliff Dr. Tuesday | August 13, 2019 | 6:00 PM Staff and Governing Body meal (6:00 p.m.) 1. CALL TO ORDER Present: Bacon, Brownlee, Randall, McCoy, Vogt, and Copeland Absent: Campbell Others in attendance: Michael Wilkes, City Manager; Susan Sherman, Assistant City Manager; Ron Shaver, City Attorney; and City Department Directors. 2. DISCUSSION ITEMS A. Discussion of the Olathe 2040 Future Ready Strategic Plan. Included will be an overview of the Strategic Plan process, presentation of draft goals and strategies, and an exercise to review focus areas and provide comments. Focus areas are: Future Ready, Economy, Exceptional Services, Infrastructure and Quality of Life. Assistant City Manager, Susan Sherman gave a short presentation and overview of the Olathe 2040, Future Ready process that began in the Spring of 2018 with the City Council's Futures Lab. She then directed staff and the Council to four breakout sessions that would outline in more detail the proposed 20 year strategic plan. The first breakout discussion was led by Fire Chief, Jeff Degraffenreid, and the topic was Exceptional Services which included Quality Workforce and Innovation and Collaboration. The second session, Quality of Life, was facilitated by City Attorney, Ron Shaver and Parks & Recreation Director, Michael Meadors. They discussed Housing and Quality Neighborhoods, Connected People, a Healthy Community, People Reaching Their Full Potential and Celebrating our Unique Places and History. Page 1 of 2 City Council Meeting Minutes August 13, 2019 Public Works Director, Mary Jaeger presented the third initiative, Infrastructure. The discussion revolved around Optimizing Health and Safety, a Connected Multimodal Transportation System, and a Resilient Infrastructure. The final session, Economy, was led by Assistant City Manager, Susan Sherman. The focus of this discussion included a Strong Diverse Economic Base Built By Highly Successful Businesses of All Sizes, a Knowledge-Based Workforce, and Vibrant Business Retail and Entertainment. Staff was available to answer questions throughout each discussion. 3. ADDITIONAL ITEMS Mayor Copeland thanked the Olathe 2040 team for a job well done and is looking forward to the next steps. 4.
