Arts Commission Meeting Minutes July 14, 2022
Commissioners shared thoughts on the current Arts Commission mission statement, and
Commissioner Tran proposed new language. Commissioners agreed to edit the mission
statement at their October retreat, and propose changes to the Community Livability and
Public Safety Committee along with their annual work program. In the interim, Ms.
Johnson will research the practices of other City Boards and Commissions regarding
mission and vision statements and bring that information back to the group.
The discussion was completed.
22-0662 Review and Recommendation of Call for Artist in Residence
Commissioners reviewed the Call for Artist in Residence application and made a few
minor edits and expanded the jury to five: two representatives from Drexel House, two
Arts Commissioners, and Kim Kondrat, City of Olympia Homeless Response
Coordinator.
Commissioner Hoag moved, seconded by Commissioner Clifthorne, to
forward the Call for Artist in Residence as edited to the Community Livability
and Public Safety Committee for review. The motion passed.
22-0637 Communications Discussion
Commissioners continued to discuss ways to get the word out about City arts
opportunities. Ms. Johnson shared a poster made following the Commission's June
retreat that includes a QR code directing users to the submission page for the City's Mail
Chimp Arts and Culture account. Commissioners made no changes to the design. Ms.
Johnson will arrange to have the poster installed on flier boards around town.
The discussion was completed.
22-0638 Arts Commission 2022-2023 Committee Assignments
Commissioners volunteered to fill in the empty spots on the committee and jury
assignment schedule.
The discussion was completed.
