1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Dorgan called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m.

Present: 6 - Chair Kathryn Dorgan, Vice Chair Jacie Hoag, Commissioner Jim
Burlingame, Commissioner Coral Garey, Commissioner Katherine
Ransom and Commissioner Jay Spivak
Absent: 3 - Commissioner Christen Greene, Commissioner Andrew Repcik and
Commissioner Tracy Schreiber
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Ms. Johnson asked to move item 10 (ARCH in Olympia Overview) to the June
meeting, as the presentation was meant for new members and not all were in
attendance.
The agenda was approved as amended.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
24-0398 Approval of April 11, 2024 Arts Commission Meeting Minutes
The minutes were approved.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT - None
5. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Commissioners shared information about past and upcoming arts events.
6. BUSINESS ITEMS
24-0400 Approval of the Grass Lake Nature Park Public Art Final Design
Grass Lake Project Artist Abe Singer presented final details and budget for the Grass

Lake Public Art Design. Since Council approval of the concept design in April, Mr.
Singer has and will continue to work with staff to line up park feature design and
public art components. Discussion included safety measures Mr. Singer had taken,
maintenance measures like painting the reverse (inaccessible) side of the bird blind,
structural strength and amount of visibility in the bird blind screen.
Commissioner Garey moved, seconded by Commissioner Ransom, to
approve final design for the Grass Lake Nature Park Public Art project. The
motion was approved.
24-0401 ARCH in Olympia Overview
The discussion was postponed to the June meeting and closed under File
24-0401.
24-0403 Open Public Meetings Act Training
Commissioners watched the Open Public Meetings Act and Public Records Act
training videos posted on the City's webpage for Advisory Committees.
Commissioners Greene, Repcik and Schreiber were not in attendance. Staff followed
up with an email, the video links and a request to watch the videos independently
before the June 13 Arts Commission meeting.
The information was provided.
7. REPORTS - None
8. OTHER TOPICS
Ms. Johnson asked for Commission volunteers. Commissioner Spivak offered to
participate in the selection of musicians and performers for the Music Out Loud
project coordinated by the Olympia Downtown Alliance. Commissioner Ransom
offered to assist in selecting the fall Arts Innovation awards.
Commissioners chatted briefly about the June 13 Arts Commission retreat to be held
at the Armory, specifically around start times and dinner suggestions. Staff will follow
up with Chair Dorgan and Vice-Chair Hoag to determine the agenda.
