BUSINESS ITEM 2.A 19-1056 Briefing on Renter Protections Mayor Selby introduced the topic. Home Fund Program Manager Cary Retlin reviewed and discussed housing challenges in Olympia. He shared the causes and effects of eviction. He reviewed changes to the State Residential Landlord Tenant Act that went in effect in July, along with recent changes in other cities. Mr. Retlin shared protections requested by tenants of the City Council. He gave an overview of the protections requested and examples of ordinances in other Washington cities. Mr. Retlin reviewed possible next steps for renter protections. Councilmembers asked clarifying questions. Councilmember Gilman asked the Chairs of Land Use & Environment Committee, Finance Committee and General Government to meet with Mr. Retlin and Interim Community Planning and Development Director Leonard Bauer to discuss a path forward regarding these issues.
