CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 12:05 p.m. Due to a potential lack of quorum, Commissioner Newmann was asked to serve as an alternate for this meeting only. 2. ROLL CALL Present: 3 - Commissioner Garner Miller, Commissioner Rachel Newmann and Commissioner Sheila Swalling Excused: 3 - Chair Kat Kelly, Commissioner Dwayne Harkness and Commissioner Nicholas Vann 3. BUSINESS ITEMS 3.A 18-0858 Application for Inclusion in the Olympia Heritage Register: 2418 Otis Street SE (CPD 18-1550) Commissioners noted the house has new wood windows that are an appropriate replication of the original windows. Based on a review of the historic photograph, Commissioners observed the chimney was shortened. Commissioners also noted the new addition, currently under construction, is an appropriate addition. All agreed the integrity of the setting, design, location and materials have been well maintained. Commissioner Swalling moved, seconded by Commissioner Newmann, to recommend approval of the property located at 2418 Otis Street to be included in the Olympia Heritage Register. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 3 - Commissioner Miller, Commissioner Newmann and Commissioner Swalling Excused: 3 - Chair Kelly, Commissioner Harkness and Commissioner Vann 3.B 18-0859 Application for Inclusion in the Olympia Heritage Register: 2419 Otis City of Olympia Page 1 Heritage Commission Meeting Minutes September 10, 2018 Street SE (CPD 18-1551) After discussion and deliberation, the Commissioners agreed the property not be included in the Olympia Heritage Register. The building's historical integrity has been compromised significantly. Original windows have been replaced with vinyl windows; the front door has been replaced with a fiberglass door; the siding has been replaced with a wider lap siding; a carport has been added to the building; and brick wainscoting has been added around the building envelope. Lastly, the historic significance of persons or groups identified with the property is not significant enough to warrant placement on the Olympia Heritage Register. Commissioner Swalling moved, seconded by Commissioner Newmann, to recommend denial of inclusion of the property located at 2419 Otis Street in the Olympia Heritage Register. The motion carried by the following vote. Aye: 3 - Commissioner Miller, Commissioner Newmann and Commissioner Swalling Excused: 3 - Chair Kelly, Commissioner Harkness and Commissioner Vann 4.
