Chair Kelly called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

5. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mr. Bauer provided updates on the City draft budget, the Laurana Project and the
Howard Point Project.
6. BUSINESS ITEMS
18-1151 Priest Point Park Survey - Consultant Report
Ms. Van Gelder presented results of the consultant report on the archaeological survey of
Priest Point Park.
The report was received.
18-1130 Recommendation of Approval or Denial of Special Valuation for 2420
Capitol Way South
Mr. Bauer and Ms. Schreck presented an overview regarding the special valuation for
2420 Capitol Way South.
Commissioner Walker moved, seconded by Commissioner Swalling, to
approve the special valuation for 2420 Capitol Way South. The motion carried
by the following vote:
Aye: 8 - Chair Kelly, Commissioner Helle, Commissioner Major,
Commissioner Miller, Commissioner Newmann, Commissioner
Swalling, Commissioner Vann and Commissioner Walker
Excused: 2 - Commissioner Davies and Commissioner Harkness
Abstained: 1 - Commissioner Henley
18-1127 Review of Draft Plaque Text for Olympia Heritage Register Designations
for 2418 Otis St. SE and 2420 Capitol Way South
Mr. Bauer and Ms. Schreck presented a recommendation for plaque text. The
Commission discussed correction to capitalize "State Representative for the 33rd
District" on the 2420 Capital Way plaque.
Commissioner Walker moved, seconded by Commissioner Swalling, to
approve the plaque corrections. The motion passed unanimously.
18-1152 Letter to City Council - continued discussion from November 14, 2018
meeting
The Commission reviewed revisions to the draft letter regarding Council resolution
18-0904, authorization to purchase real estate owned by Minh Do Thi Smith at 112 and
116 4th Avenue W.
Commissioner Miller moved, seconded by Commissioner Walker, to send the
draft letter with edits to City Council. The motion passed unanimously.

18-1153 Preservation Awards - subcommittee report
Commissioners Newman and Henley reported on the 2019 Awards Program. Questions
were identified for the Commission to discuss at the January 2019 meeting.
The report was received.
18-1154 Discussion of Potential Dates for Olympia Heritage Commission Retreat
Chair Kelly introduced the topic of a retreat in early April or May.
The discussion was completed.
