APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 22-0283 Approval of February 23, 2022 Heritage Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT - None 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Commissioners acknowledged and thanked outgoing Commissioners Sheila Swalling and Susan Rohrer. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 6.A 22-0284 2022 Heritage Awards and Heritage Month Planning City of Olympia Page 1 Heritage Commission Meeting Minutes March 23, 2022 Ms. Goddu shared the tentative schedule for review and forwarding of nominations brought by Commissioners. Commissioners presented nominations for discussion and vote. The recommendation was recommended for approval. Commissioner House presented information to support a nomination of Jack’s Shoes for Heritage Award as a Heritage Business. Commissioner Swalling moved, seconded by Commissioner Lumbantobing, to recommend Jack's Shoes for a 2022 Heritage Award as an Olympia Legacy Business. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 8 - Chair Davies, Commissioner Henley, Commissioner House, Commissioner Lumbantobing, Vice Chair Miller, Commissioner Pareigis, Commissioner Stedman and Commissioner Swalling Nay: 1 - Commissioner Scott Commissioner Hull presented information to support a nomination of the Angelus Hotel for a 2022 Heritage Award for successful rehabilitation . Vice Chair Miller moved, seconded by Commissioner Scott, to recommend the Angelus Hotel for a 2022 Heritage Award for successful rehabilitation. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 5 - Commissioner House, Vice Chair Miller, Commissioner Scott, Commissioner Stedman and Commissioner Swalling Nay: 4 - Chair Davies, Commissioner Henley, Commissioner Lumbantobing and Commissioner Pareigis Commissioner Pareigis presented information to support a nomination of The Eastside Club tavern for a 2022 Heritage Award as an Olympia Legacy Business. Commissioner House moved, seconded by Commissioner Henley, to recommend The Eastside Club for a 2022 Heritage Award as an Olympia Legacy Business. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 9 - Chair Davies, Commissioner Henley, Commissioner House, Commissioner Lumbantobing, Vice Chair Miller, Commissioner Pareigis, Commissioner Scott, Commissioner Stedman and Commissioner Swalling Commissioner House presented information to support a nomination of the citizens who researched and pursued the Howard Point Naming for a 2022 Heritage Award. Commissioner Henley moved, seconded by Commissioner Scott, to recommend Ed Echtle, Shanna Stevenson, and Thelma Jackson for a 2022 Heritage Award for their research and application to restore the name Howard Point. Commissioner Lumbantobing moved, seconded by Commissioner Pareigis, to recommend KGY Radio for a 2022 Heritage Award. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 9 - Chair Davies, Commissioner Henley, Commissioner House, Commissioner Lumbantobing, Vice Chair Miller, Commissioner Pareigis, Commissioner Scott, Commissioner Stedman and Commissioner Swalling 6.B 22-0285 Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Historic Preservation The discussion was tabled to the April meeting. 7. REPORTS 7.A COMMITTEE REPORTS Commissioner Henley reported the Marketing & Outreach Committee met and has a tentative date of Mary 18 planned for a Heritage Month awards event. The Committe is also planning for the summer LoveOly festival tabling. Commissioner Hull reported the Survey & Designation Committee met and will be developing a counter card/handout on key benefits of listing to communicate with historic property owners and encourage listing of more downtown buildings. There were no reports for Heritage Review Committee or Policy, Ordinance & Guidance Committee. Chair Davies reported on meeting with City Council’s Community Livability and Public Safety Committee (formerly General Government), and the presentation of the Commission’s 2022 Work Plan. 7.B STAFF REPORT Ms. Goddu reported the Commisson’s application for a $5,000 grant from Thurston County for research on Olympia’s Indie Music History has been approved. 8.
