1. CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

The agenda was approved.

3.A 19-0449 Approval of March 21, 2019 Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee
Meeting Minutes
The minutes were approved.
4. PUBLIC COMMENT
Ron Marco thanked the Committee for their support of new pickleball courts at Woodruff
Park.
Bob Jacobs spoke about including public involvement in the Downtown Park Plan and
Aquatic Feasibility Study, and developing park standards for multi-family housing.
5. ANNOUNCEMENTS
Park Planning and Design Manager Laura Keehan updated the Committee on park
projects and events.

6.A 19-0572 Downtown Parks Plan Discussion

Committee
Director of Parks Planning and Maintenance Jonathon Turlove reviewed the scope of the
Downtown Parks Strategy. The Committee asked clarifying questions. The Committee
supported the idea of combining the Downtown Park Strategy work with the 2020 Parks,
Arts and Recreation Plan process.
The discussion was completed.
6.B 19-0573 Aquatic Center Feasibility Study Update
Parks, Arts and Recreation Director Paul Simmons reviewed the proposed scope and
timeline for the Aquatic Feasibility Study. The Committee asked clarifying questions.

6.C 19-0566 Yelm Highway Community Park Master Plan Briefing
Ms. Keehan updated the Committee on the master plan process for the Yelm Highway
property. The City has contracted with Berger Partnership to develop the master plan
and coordinate the public process. The Committee asked clarifying questions.
The information was provided.
6.D 19-0565 PRAC Park Evaluations
Park survey packets were distributed.
The information was provided.
7. REPORTS
A. North Capitol Campus Heritage Park Development Assoc. - None
B. Olympia Metropolitan Parks Advisory Board - Rhianna Hruska reported that at the
May 8 meeting the Committee reviewed the compliance report and discussed options to
account for and report on parks funding.
8. QUESTIONS OF STAFF AND FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
No meeting will be held in July. The August meeting will include a presentation on the
2020 Draft Capital Facilities Plan and the Capital Asset Management Program.
