CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 6:02 p.m. 1.A ROLL CALL Present: 9 - Co-Chair Parfait Bassalé, Commissioner Mark Hodgson, Commissioner Rachelle Martin, Commissioner Fauziya Mohamedali, Commissioner Wesley Nguyen, Commissioner Marianne Ozmun-Wells, Commissioner Kevin Mattison, Commissioner Robin Rosen-Evans and Commissioner Larry Watkinson Excused: 1 - Co-Chair Genevieve Chan 2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA The agenda was approved. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 3.A 24-0262 Approval of February 26, 2024 Social Justice and Equity Commission Meeting Minutes The minutes were approved. 4. PUBLIC COMMENT Kathy Baros Friedt and Leslie Cushman spoke. 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS Commissioner Nguyen reminded Commissioners this was his last meeting. He thanked everyone and wished them good luck moving forward. 6. BUSINESS ITEMS 6.A 24-0256 Approval of the authorization of the Social Justice and Equity Commission Chairs to sign a letter of support requesting federal funding for body worn and in-vehicle camera equipment for the Olympia Police Department City of Olympia Page 1 Social Justice & Equity Meeting Minutes March 25, 2024 Commission Commissioner Watkinson moved, seconded by Commissioner Hodgson, to approve authorization of the Social Justice and Equity Commission Chairs to sign a letter of support requesting federal funding for body worn and in-vehicle camera equipment for the Olympia Police Department. The motion carried by the following vote: Aye: 9 - Co-Chair Bassalé, Commissioner Hodgson, Commissioner Martin, Commissioner Mohamedali, Commissioner Nguyen, Commissioner Ozmun-Wells, Commissioner Mattison, Commissioner Rosen-Evans and Commissioner Watkinson Excused: 1 - Co-Chair Chan 6.B 24-0259 Update on the Community Oversight of Law Enforcement Process Strategic Planning & Performance Manager Stacey Ray provided an update on the Community Oversight of Law Enforcement Process. The discussion was completed. 6.C 24-0260 Presentation on Equity Framework Update Social Justice and Equity Program Manager Tobi Hill-Meyer presented on the City of Olympia's current Equity Framework and encouraged Commissioners to provide feedback. The information was provided. 6.D 24-0261 Experiences of Discrimination in Olympia Discussion The discussion was postponed and referred to the Social Justice and Equity Commission 2024 retreat. 7. REPORTS Social Justice and Equity Program Manager Hill-Meyer will send Commissioners an email that summarizes the Capital Mall Triangle project.
