Stat. § 19.84, notice is hereby given to the public by the Village President, that the following meeting will be held: Meeting: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Committee Date: Thursday, February 2, 2023 Location: Fireside Room, People’s UMC, 103 N. Alpine Pkwy Time: 6:30 PM f Note: Any person who has a qualifying disability as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act that requires the meeting or materials at the meeting to be in an accessible location or format must contact the Village Clerk at (608) 835-3118, 117 Spring Street, Oregon, Wisconsin, at least twenty-four (24) hours prior to the commencement of the meeting so that any necessary arrangements can be made to accommodate each request. MEETING MINUTES 1) Call to Order. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. 2) Roll Call. Attendance: Lori Anderson, Dan Dick, Alice Egan, Alyssa Pillar-Kellman, Rachel Wagabaza, Carlene Bechen 3) Approval of January 5, 2023 DEI Committee meeting minutes The minutes were approved by group consensus. 4) Business (Items are for discussion and / or potential action). a) Reading to focus Committee’s attention on work. There was an open discuss about the reading “25 Traits of the Beloved Community.” b) Continue to discuss and work on Village of Oregon DEI statement and policy. There was a general discussion about the purpose/vision of a DEI statement and policy. The members believe the Village should have a statement as well. Dan Dick drafted a statement/policy based on previous conversations at prior meetings. The committee reviewed the statement/policy and will continue working on it. The following items were discussed and suggested as items of importance in the statement/policy. 1. Representation of staff and community village wide. 2. Attract and retain diverse individuals to the Village. 3. Infuse DEI into standard decision making. 4. Making policing in Oregon a model for the state. 5. Method for communication that provides opportunities to share experiences. 6. Resources for people who want to learn more. 7. Community events. Page 1 of 2 Approved 03/02/2023  It was noted the Village Board voted to provide DEI training to the Village Board, Village Staff, and any other members of the Village Committees/Commissions/Boards. The reasoning is to provide more diversity as currently they are mostly white persons. c) Continue to discuss ideas to submit to the Public Arts Committee to highlight diversity, equity, and inclusion in the community. d) Update on Nehemiah training and Black History for a New Day course. It was noted there are 36 people registered, 4 facilitators, supposed to start 2/6/23 but since the Village has its own facilitators can alter start time. If facilitators can provide availability, it will allow the Village to begin scheduling. e) Report on Village business related to the DEI Committee. f) Other matters for discussion and future agenda items. The next meeting will take place on March 2, 2023. Rachel Wagabaza will facilitate and Carlene Bechen will take meeting minutes. 5) Adjournment The DEI Committee adjourned.
