Stat. § 19.84, notice is hereby given to the public by the Village President, that the following meeting will be held: Meeting: Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Committee Date: Thursday, March 2, 2023 Location: Fireside Room, People’s UMC, 103 N. MEETING MINUTES 1. Call to Order. 2. Roll Call. Members present: Rachel Wagabaza, Alyssa Pillar-Kellman, Lori Anderson, Carlene Bechen, Dan Dick 3. Approval of February 2, 2023, DEI Committee meeting minutes a. approved 4. Business (Items are for discussion and / or potential action). a) Reading to focus Committee’s attention on work. • Heather Maghee’s, The Sum of Us b) Continue to discuss and work on Village of Oregon DEI statement and policy. • Create draft with directives. c) Report on Black History for a New Day course. • Carlene – Discussion really good, very receptive, well read, different kinds of experiences, focus on the words. • Rachel – went really well; hard not to say more, say what she felt; engaged – good first session, figuring out how much to share, focus on the words in the video. • Dan – 4 fully engaged, 2 interested and attentive, 3 not-so much, focus on what we learned in school. • Lori/Alyssa – Went smoothly, no tech problems, 3 people (2 knew each other) great conversation. • Carlene – big concern: four police officers did not attend; some did not notify. • Reschedule Election Day sessions on April 4. • Meet with Nehemiah for review and feedback, March 13 at 6:00 pm. d) Ideas on recruiting an additional committee member. Approved 03/30/23  e) Other matters for discussion and future agenda items. • Oregon Observer – article and picture placement; Carlene will have a private conversation; don’t want to inflame through public confrontation.
