Airport Commission Meeting Minutes April 14, 2022 – Owatonna Degner Regional Airport “DRAFT” 1. Call to Order Vice Chairman Thurnau called the meeting of the Airport Commission to order at 5:00 PM. 2. Roll Call Attending James Keltgen Commissioner Greg Krueger Commissioner Paula Snitker Commissioner Matt Thurnau Vice Chairman Sharon West Commissioner Dave Beaver Airport Manager Visitors Jim Jacobson Accelerated Aviation Clayton Peterson Accelerated Aviation Nick Grahek Bolton and Menk 3. Approval of Agenda Commissioner West made a motion to approve the agenda and Commissioner Krueger seconded the motion. The motion was approved. 4. Minutes Commissioner Keltgen made a motion to approve the minutes from the March 10, 2022 Airport Commission meeting and Commissioner Snitker seconded the motion. The motion was approved. 5. Action Items Chairman Reports There were no Chairman reports. Staff Reports Airport Manager Beaver reported on airport activities and presented the combined aviation fuel volumes dispensed. The combined fuel volumes are up year to date from the previous year. Mr. Beaver reported on business activity and recent communications updates. Mr. Beaver explained that the 2022 farm land lease renewals and annual aircraft display documents will be considered at the April 19th City Council meeting. Mr. Beaver reported that a new non-commercial private hangar land lease is being prepared for Lot #2. The hangar is in the process of being sold and will involve a mutual lease cancellation in order to enter into the new agreement with the buyer. There was a brief discussion. Security Fencing Project Phase 1 Review Nick Grahek with Bolton and Menk, the airport engineering firm, presented the preliminary layout and budget estimate for the proposed initial phase of security fencing. There was a discussion regarding options for layout and type of fencing to be considered. Mr. Grahek explained that based on the discussion that updated layout options and costs would be presented at the next meeting. Accelerated Aviation Update Vice Chairman Thurnau introduced Jim Jacobson and Clayton Peterson with Accelerated Aviation to provide an update on activities. Mr. Jacobson reported that flight training activity has grown with students primarily from the seven state area; however, there have been students from states including Alaska, Texas, Hawaii, Tennessee and others. Accelerated is now in two hangars with eight flight instructors and seven aircraft. Mr. Jacobson explained that they are working with local High School guidance counselors to increase awareness for students interested in learning more about opportunities to train for pilot careers. Commissioner Snitker suggested that Accelerated could possibly be involved with college fair type presentations at the High School. Mr. Peterson presented a marketing brochure that has been recently developed that can be used to explain the training program. There was a general discussion regarding activities at Accelerated Aviation. 6. Adjournment The Airport Commission meeting was adjourned at 6:00 PM with a motion made by Commissioner Snitker and seconded by Commissioner Krueger. The motion was approved.
