Owatonna Human Rights Commission – Minutes The Owatonna Human Rights Commission (OHRC) met on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in the Second Floor Conference Room at City Hall. At 5:30 p.m. Chairman Gunderson called the meeting to order. Present were Commissioners Cords, Vanoosbree, Gillespie, Effertz, and Gunderson; City Administrator Busse and Administrative Specialist Clawson. Attending via TEAMS were Commissioner Worden and Communications Manager Sheely. Commissioner Emanuelson was unable to attend this meeting. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Commissioner Cords made a motion to approve the proposed meeting agenda, Commissioner Gillespie seconded the motion, all members voted aye for approval. Minutes of the December 14, 2021, OHRC Meeting were reviewed. Commissioner Cords made a motion to approve the Minutes as presented, Commissioner Vanoosbree seconded the motion, and all members present voted aye for approval. During Items of Discussion, plans for the MLK Jr Day Breakfast were reviewed. Chairman Gunderson thanked Commissioners Cords and Emanuelson for organizing the 2022 breakfast event. Commissioner Vanoosbree commented the Alliance for Greater Equity (AGE) hopes to livestream the event and post to social media, she will contact Scott Limberg, Limberg Productions about video options. City Administrator Busse welcomed Communications Manager Sheely who presented a Communication Plan for this breakfast event. Commissioner Emanuelson prepared a Letter to the Editor to promote the breakfast and the OHRC. The commissioners reviewed Dave’s letter, made a few modifications, and then agreed to send to the Owatonna Peoples Press. AGE will present a 21-Day Equity Challenge during the breakfast which will be available on the United Way of Steele County’s website. An event follow-up and tally of survey results by Commissioner Worden will assist in preparation of next year’s event. A virtual training session will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm with Welcoming America. City Administrator Busse, Commissioners Gunderson and Cords plan to attend, Commissioners Gillespie, Worden and Emanuelson will check their calendars and attend if available. City Administrator Busse will forward the meeting access information. Commissioner Worden commented the mural project in collaboration with the Girl Scouts, will begin when the weather is warmer. Commissioner Effertz commented she is gathering information for the OHRC Newsletter. Commissioner Cords and Vanoosbree offered to take pictures during the MLK Jr Day Breakfast event for use. At 6:15 p.m., Commissioner Gillespie made a motion to adjourn, Commissioner Vanoosbree seconded this motion; with no objections, the meeting was adjourned.
