MINUTES OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING PLANNING COMMISSION/ BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS July 19, 2016 Commissioners Present: Cowman, Hardwick, Pfefferkorn, Wrischnik Commissioners Absent: Meinig, McLean Others Present: Mike Gotfredson, Lonnie Shanks Item 1: Pledge of Allegiance Item 2: Consideration of minutes from the May 17, 2016 meeting. Chair Cowman called the meeting to order. The first order of business was the consideration of the minutes from the May 17, 2016 meeting. Commissioners Hardwick and Wrischnik made a motion to approve the minutes with all Commissioners voting in favor. Pfefferkorn abstained due to previous absence. Item 3: Consideration and vote on a site plan for an addition to Prairie Place apartments, 1013 Prairie Place, Tevis Architects, applicant. Planner Gotfredson presented that the applicant is requesting to construct two six-plexes and one five-plex apartments and a community building at the Prairie Place apartment complex. Mr. Gotfredson stated that there were a number of engineering, Public Works Department, and Fire Department comments that will need to be addressed by the applicant before construction begins. If this comments can be addressed, Mr. Gotfredson recommended approval of the site plan. Commission Wrischnik asked about the nature of the comments and that there seemed to be a lot of things addressed. Mr. Gotfredson stated that some were major in nature while others were more technical. Commissioner Pfefferkorn commented that he normally asks about storm drainage, but noted that it had appeared to be addressed in the comments. There was no further discussion among Commissioners. Commissioners Cowman and Pfefferkorn made a motion to approve the final site plan with conditions of satisfactorily address engineering comments, satisfactorily address Public Works comments and satisfactorily address Fire Department comments. All Commissioners voted in favor. Paola Planning Commission Minutes July 19, 2016 1 Item 4: Community/ Economic Development Director Report and Items from Commissioners. Planner Gotfredson gave a brief update of projects going on in the City of Paola. He noted that development activity this summer had kept staff busy with six new homes under construction and four permits pending. Additionally, there are several projects including the one reviewed tonight as well as a planned senior apartment complex that will be major developments for Paola. Mr. Gotfredson also announced that Randi Shannon would be out for a few months after the birth of a healthy baby boy. He stated even though it had only been two days, that she was already sorely missed. Item 8: Adjournment. Commissioners Cowman and Pfefferkorn made a motion to adjourn the meeting.
