MINUTES OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING PLANNING COMMISSION/ BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS March 20, 2018 Commissioners Present: Cowman, McLean, Hardwick, Wrischnik Commissioners Absent: Pfefferkorn Others Present: Randi Shannon, Jessica Shay-Howell, Triangle Builders applicant Item 1: Pledge of Allegiance Item 2: Consideration of minutes from the November 21, 2017 meeting. Chair Cowman called the meeting to order. The first order of business was the consideration of the minutes from the November 21, 2017 meeting. Commissioners Hardwick and McLean made a motion to approve the minutes with all Commissioners voting in favor. Item 3: Consideration and vote on a design review for a welding classroom addition at the Fort Scott Community College located at 501 S Hospital Drive. Triangle Builders LLC applicant. City Planner, Randi, presented that this is a request for a building addition to the south for a 32’ x 45’ addition for a new welding classroom for Fort Scott Community College. Applicant is requesting to use a metal panel of similar color of the exiting brick building instead of using a brick façade. Applicant, Triangle Builders LLC, presented that they are planning to use metal siding for the building while making the foundation large enough to accommodate future masonry to match the existing building. The metal panel siding will be of earth tone color to match the existing building façade. The addition will be located at the back of the existing building and will not be visible from the street. Commissioner Hardwick questioned the color scheme of the metal addition. Applicant replied the color scheme will be beige to match the existing color scheme. Commissioner McLean questioned if the metal addition would be fire resistant. Applicant state that the hallway attaching the addition to the existing building will have a fire rated door as well the addition being fully sprinkled. Paola Planning Commission Minutes March 20, 2018 1 Commissioner Wrischnik inquired if there will be sufficient parking. Planner Randi said there is adequate parking. There was no further discussion among Commissioners. Commissioners McLean and Wrischnik made a motion to approve design review for a welding classroom addition at the Fort Scott Community College located at 501 S Hospital Drive. Item 4: Consideration and vote on the recommendation for the final draft revision to Article 3, Section 210 Accessory Use, Residential of the City of Paola Land Development Ordinance. Commissioners were presented with a final draft that took all of their recommendations into consideration for review. The consensus of the Commissioners was that all corrections have been made and these corrections will be favorable for the residents and the character of the City of Paola. There was no further discussion among Commissioners. Commissioners McLean and Hardwick made a motion to approve the recommendation for the final draft revision to Article 3, Section 210 Accessory Use, Residential of the City of Paola Land Development Ordinance, with all Commissioners voting in favor. Item 5: Community/Economic Development Director Report. Senior apartments are moving quickly. Final inspection on the club house has been completed. 2018 New Housing Incentive has been renewed to expire on December 31, 2018. USD #368 upgrading their stadium and locker rooms remodel.
